Yohan Cabaye retires

His goal is not being talked about much like, was an incredible strike.

Yeah - very strange.  Was a cracker.

It was very well hit but the keeper has to do much better.

It really moved like a fecker tbf to Josef Mengele, like a balloon in hurricane.

This. The replay from behind Cabaye clearly shows the ball starts off moving towards then swerving away from the keeper. He'd obviously misjudged the flight of the ball and his reaction was too late, but that says more about the technique in the shot than the keeper's judgement.

On that note, I love seeing our players attempt to hit outrageous shots as Cabaye did today. Granted he's mishit the other two he tried, but it shows that he's full of confidence and self-belief.

Totally disagree with this - in general, a strike from 30 yards does pose questions about a keeper's competence but if you saw the shot from behind Cabaye, as on the TV replay, you can see that the bend of the ball and the placement of it gave Mignolet NO chance of stopping it - he dived in good time, but it was just too far to his right for him to reach.

One of the best long-range goals I've seen, in the class of Arie Haan of Holland who hit 2 amazing strikes in the 78 WC in Argentina.

Replay from behind the goal shows Cabaye glancing up to look at the exact spot he's put it in as well just before pulling the trigger. Got texts from a couple of scousers saying it was a fluke. Told them to get fucked. It really was a sensational strike.

Ask them to revise their own definition of a fluke. Picked his spot and nailed it. If it bounced off a Liverpool players arse and changed direction totally, then you can call fluke. The contact from Cabaye on the ball was way too true to be calling fluke.

He misjudged it because of the bounce. No chance of stopping it, ffs.

He's very good when he can play his own game, which is about getting on the ball, spraying it about, driving forward, and getting shots off. It helps his game and indeed ours when he's playing much further forward which he seems to be doing this season.

For too many games he's ended up playing too deep. With Tiote firing again it will help Cabs move up the park with confidence.

If you aim somewhere and shoot - and it just so happens to go in that exact direction it's pretty much the opposite of a fluke.

Watch Cabaye when he hits a ball - he knows how to get it to swerve. It was a world class goal and the 'keeper couldn't get near it through no fault of his own.

Correctamundo. He's scored plenty in the past from distance so anyone who's said 'fluke' is basically a spackabocka

I know he will end up leaving this summer but personally I'm grateful for what he's done.

Top players should show ambition and want to win things, until we match that as a club I can't hole a grudge against anyone who wants to better themselves

His attitude since he came back has been brilliant but I wonder what it would have been like if there wasn't a World Cup looming. Irrelevant at the minute like as he's instrumental for us and our hopes of picking up points.

Whether you like it or not, he had NO chance of stopping it - Cabaye has hit too many long range strikes for them to be classed as keeper errors or flukes.

They had Ray Clemence in the studio on Al Jazeera and he said Mignolet was at fault - pointed out if had taken a small step to his right before diving he would've reached it comfortably.

Goals on Sunday blamed Sakho for being in his way.

I blame Yohan Cabaye's boot.

If you watch any goal in slow motion, after the event the keeper probably could have done something else to save it.

Hate these pointless hindsight things the media do. Can't we just say it was a bloody good strike that went in?

The goal was perfectly taken and the bounce just in front of the keeper ensured he was never going to save it.

 No keeper is getting to that like. It originally looks like it'll be an easy save but the ball veers left and keeps on going away from his right hand. The bounce is the final nail in the coffin as it zips of the slick surface. Blaming a keeper for that is ridiculous.
