I admit it's unlikely, but how do you know it actually isn't him? It's not like we constantly hear Pardew yelling at him to stay back, and afaik he hasn't really mentioned that Cabaye needs to sit back more and help the defence in any press conferences. Maybe Cabaye himself feels he needs to help the defence more, or simply feels like he is more useful around that area of the pitch. Just seems to me like its very easy to blame Pardew without actually having much knowledge of the conversations that go on during training, in the changing rooms etc. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Surely everyone can see that we don't play in a way that suits this bloke. Its fair enough saying stuff like he needs to get involved more but it takes at least two people for a successful pass. Its the movement and the defensive mentality thats the problem. Our midfielders at the moment are just 'bodies' who get stuck in - James Perch is good at this. Saying he had a poor game is such a load of absolute rubbish. Seems to be the people who are desperate to justify the manager's negative approach that are just dying to tell us that it's all the players' fault. Wasn't his best game by any means but he was definitely a lot more influential today than against Arsenal (especially in an attacking sense), some nice passes here and there - has to be said though, we haven't seen that Cabaye for a while. He was outstanding. On the other hand, Cabaye needs to be given license to do what he does best, and for some reason he doesn't appear to have that atm. Not thatit matters like. We're in europe. Seems to be the people who are desperate to justify the manager's negative approach that are just dying to tell us that it's all the players' fault. been poor recently but i think he was alright and did one or two really good things. and even when he looks crap on the ball he always puts a good shift in defensively, as he did today. think he benefitted from having an extra midfielder in there (at least before 2nd half when he stuck to the left-wing position more and drifted out the match for a bit) as it meant he wasn't charging around after the play most the time but could compose himself. played a handful of neat one-twos with the likes of guthrie as well. Then about 5 minutes later when guthrie went off pardew called him over and said hold your horses son, goslings taking that role. We need to stay back.
