Mevlüt Erdinç

I think it's clear we rate him so I think giving him a deadline as we have done is fair enough.

It's interesting that we rate him so highly, and yet he's a player that doesn't seem that much in demand elsewhere - unlike Gameiro and Gervinho. We clearly see some potential in him that others don't.

I don't get the attitude because he hasn't signed yet he doesn't really want to be with us so he'll end up another Owen.

Just think in the real world if we had similar wage offers from 3 different companies all in different situations I think I would take my time deciding what is the best move.

Galatasaray would be attractive to him given its his home country, Lille would also be attractive as he is still in France where he has spent the last few years, then its to go abroad into the unknown with Newcastle. Not forgetting the other two clubs offering European football, however, The Premier League being a bigger attraction than the Turkish or French Leagues. There is a lot to weigh up for him with any of the clubs involved. I think its unfair to say he's not interested just because this is taking time to sort out.

I can't think of too many other candidates in our price bracket so I am glad that we seem to be patient with this guy rather than panic and spunk our money on someone like Cole.

Wheres all this "he doesn't want to come here" stuff coming from? I thought Douglas had said that was agent interference and something to do with a bonus payment?

There have been multiple quotes attributed to Erdinç saying that he would rather fight for a place of PSG than move in the French media.

If he signs, it will only be a coule of days before the Gunners match or the latest at the end of the window. Im guessing both he and the agent are waiting for a bigger offer from a big club..we just need to get some other backu in place..to be honest, we need another striker in any case even if this guys signs..

That would mean we'd have Ba, Erdinc, Best, Shola, Ranger, Lovenkrands, Ben Arfa and Vuckic potentially fighting it out for places in and around the striking positions.

We don't need anyone else after that like.

Just a shame the one's in bold will struggle to hit 20 goals a season between them.

How did they manage 23 last season then? I don't rate Ranger, Loven and Shola either, but you're making such a crap case it's laughable.

I said 'struggle', not that they 'couldn't'. I believe last season they performed above their natural level of ability, and if called upon to play the same number of games this season that I don't think they would perform as well.

I'm not stating a 'case', i'm stating my opinion.

NUFC still waiting to hear from Mevlut Erding

by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle

Jul 28 2011

NEWCASTLE United are waiting to hear whether Mevlut Erding is ready to take on the challenge of leading the line at St James’ Park next season.

Yet Alan Pardew is confident of landing a new striker in time for the opening clash with Arsenal – even if Erding turns up the chance to sign for the black-and-whites.

Talks have been ongoing between United and Paris St Germain while the Magpies have been on tour in the US.

Erding has held talks with new PSG sporting director Leonardo and been told that he has ambitious plans to transform the French club’s overall look.

That means that Erding’s future is in doubt and, with PSG already linked with Santos playmaker Ganso, who will cost 40m, the writing is on the wall for several of Leonardo’s newly inherited squad.

United will give time to Erding to make his decision but will not stop chasing other targets in the meantime.

Alan Pardew has stayed in constant touch with Mike Ashley and Derek Llambias on the States tour, while transfer key man Lee Charnley has also been with the manager every inch of the way.

Pardew will continue to keep his cards close to his chest but did tell the Chronicle in the US: “The performance against Columbus was there for all to see – Demba Ba did well.

“If we get a couple of new players this team won’t be far away.

“As I have explained it will take time.

“But in August things will start coming thick and fast – everybody has been away on tour.

“I think we could have something resolved in time for the Arsenal game. I hope we will.

“I certainly feel that the motivation from Mike Ashley, Derek and myself is to get the deal done before that game.

“You can never say never with transfers.”

Meanwhile Pardew, who was back in the UK today, has reflected on the tour of the States with positivity.

He said: “I think this has been a great period for me.

“When you have a tour like we have had, which gained good, bad and ugly, the character of the group shines through.

“We were under pressure at times, especially after losing to Orlando.”

"I think we could have something resolved in time for the Arsenal game. I hope we will."

why does he constantly change his stance

he wanted someone in before america and possibly one after, other day he was certain someone would be in before the arsenal game, now he hopes we'll have someone in

Or that deals are not done until they are done? People move the goalposts in negotiations whether that be the buying/selling club, player or quite often the agent.

For example I would say Liverpool were very confident of signing Marveaux or. West Ham were very confident of signing Gudjonnsen until spurs literally hijacked the deal.

His name first came up nearly seven weeks ago now. Just think if he really wanted to come he'd be here already. Alternatively if we wanted him so badly the agent issues would be sorted already.

Alternatively if he had absolutely no intention of coming he would have flat out said no by now.
