They sound psyched at the prospect of getting him, really? with major personal problems right now? If his Dad is at that club, surely they must know of this situation? Right? Their "statements" seem even more strange now in this light. Equally if this is the position and he feels that back home is an altogether better place to be right now, then a vague but firm statement from both Colo and Club could (and probably should) have been made before now to avoid salacious rumours. Strange The San Lorenzo thing looks like simple opportunism to make themselves look big time players, doesn't exactly paint them in a good light Sounds incredibly cynical when you think his Dad's there. Pardew is hoping the imminent return on Coloccini’s wife will help ease the pressure and allow the defender to remain at Newcastle, at least until the end of the season. It was a massive story in a proper newspaper, not internet rumours or tabloid w***. They didn't have to say exactly what it was (though they're clearly happy to do so a day later) but anything would have been better than nothing. Stupid. Like someone said though, maybe Coloccini didn't want anything made public. With the rumours today that might have had to have changed. Pretty s*** that even for something like this people find a reason to slag off the club. Pathetic. Read both of my posts and get off your high horse. Where did I mention you? Look throughout the thread, some people have been blaming the club's position, Pardew, etc. for this it's pathetic. Yep. There's a contingent of people on this board who need to grow up. At the heart of the issue has been the poor health of Coloccini’s wife, who has already returned to South America, leaving him with their two children at the family home on Tyneside. Pardew is hoping the imminent return on Coloccini’s wife will help ease the pressure and allow the defender to remain at Newcastle, at least until the end of the season. The 30 year-old, who signed from Spain’s Deportivo La Coruna in 2008, will start against Norwich this weekend and will then meet to discuss his future with Pardew and managing director Derek Llambias next week. Even if Coloccini cannot be dissuaded from seeking a move, Newcastle will point out San Lorenzo do not have the money to sign him and, as he only signed a 4½-year contract in March, the club have shown him loyalty in the past. That should ensure he stays until the end of May and Coloccini has already held productive talks with Pardew. San Lorenzo may well want to sign a player who was voted into the PFA Team of the Year last season, but they also recognise they do not have the means to make a credible offer to buy him. That could lead to a loan attempt, although given Coloccini earns £60,000 a week, it is unlikely to appeal to Newcastle, who would almost certainly have to continue paying a large percentage of it and find a replacement. Newcastle only have three specialist centre-backs in the first team squad and one of them, Steven Taylor, has been missing for six weeks with a hamstring injury. Colocinni and family at the japanese restaurant that used to be Big Lukes on Bath Lane currently being slavvered over by my pissed up mother in law. He looks happy enough here. This place is tough going at the minute mind, I'm more inclined to blame the club for things than give them the unequivocal benefit of the doubt most of the time but the extreme of either viewpoint seems to always be in overdrive currently and it's really s***. Until now when it appears like a really sensitive situation has been mishandled while smutty rumours have been zooming around all over the shop, but as I say maybe Coloccini's behind that. If not then the club could have handled this a lot better. Either way we're fucked like, but I wish Coloccini and his family all the best (if this is all true). I am a bit pissed off that we're in a position where the idea of losing such a player has led to me thinking we'll lose our Premier League status rather than merely tread water and finish the season in mid-table mediocrity, but that's another story. With ZERO explanation other than the ramblings of an Argentinian football club. Of course people are going to go spare. Of course speculation was going to fly. Really naive to expect anything else. All that's being pointed out is someone from this end (the club or Colo's reps) could have at least put out a calming statement. Anything to extinguish the hysteria which is completely understandable. Note I say understandable...not necessarily agreeable. Also: we're doing shite.
