Pilko
On principle, we just don't like negotiating, that's all there is to it really. We seem to have set values for players and that's our first and last offer. Obviously, it doesn't seem that smart. It's basic psychology that if your maximum price is say £100,000, you'd offer considerably less than that to begin with.

This is one aspect in which I really don't understand them. I understand that it's probably a reaction to the good old days of "Oh, you want 10m for Luque? here you go!," but we've gone too far in the opposite direction. Conjo
@ OTT posts in here. Just fantastic Rob fucking Elliot, a keeper in League 1 with 1 year left on his contract. How is £100k a ridiculous fee? Look at other transfers from that league man. Pardew should however keep his gob shut. It's canny ridiculous to refuse to negotiate on that £100k though isn't it? We can't rate him very highly if we won't stretch to 150, 200 don't you agree? Just emphasizes that how much we rate a player comes a long way down the list when deciding who to sign and is certainly below the big barrier, cost, even on a minimal level like this. That I do agree with, and as mentioned right after, if 100k was the max we were willing to pay it would maybe be wise to lower the initial bid. Still OTT reactions in here as pr. usual. We are run by Llambias though a gambling man going all in and then seeing what he gets. I can see him waiting ages by the phone to make the important phone calls but not actually doing so until 15 mins before the transfer window when he panics and goes for someone completely random. Unbelievable
@ OTT posts in here. Just fantastic Rob f***ing Elliot, a keeper in League 1 with 1 year left on his contract. How is £100k a ridiculous fee? Look at other transfers from that league man. Pardew should however keep his gob shut. Couldn't disagree more. This saga is cringeworthy on so many levels: - why are we even looking at a league 1 goalkeeper aged 25 who has done nothing of note in his career other than having worked with Pardew and our goalkeeping coach before? - why are we offering a pittance, almost an insult? - why are we not willing to negotiate? - why, if we really rate him at just 100k and not a penny more, do we think he's good enough for the Premiership? - why are we publicly saying we are interested and have made a bid even though the bid was rejected "within minutes"? - why are we going ignoring the request of his current club to be silent about our interest even though our offer has been rebuffed and we have no interest in pursuing it further? - why have we offered our final offer straight away? - why are we even spending a minute of our technical team's time on the goalkeeper position, when there are so obviously much, much more pressing areas that need to be addressed asap? - why are we making it look like Pardew is completely out of the loop with regards to transfers? - why have we managed to make ourselves the footballing world's laughing stock again by officially being reported to the PL? If this shambles does not condone us expressing our discontent about the way the club is being run, I don't know what does..

BottledDog
According to my Charlton chums he's had a quick rise and wouldn't be surprised if a big club got hold of him he'd be England quality. They said 800,000 would be fair and in a few years time given a chance he could be worth 10 times that. Fine our offer was turned down, but good to see us take a chance on an apparently great up and coming keeper.

All it's done, assuming he is any good, is alert other clubs to the fact they can pick up a promising keeper for a very reasonable fee while we watch on the sidelines like idiots. Sifu
I can see the point in signing him as a "replacement" for Forster and being a backup keeper but if Elliot is that promising, would it make sense for him to sit on the bench for the foreseeable future?
