Not sure if its conjecture or they've spoke to lambias, still quite interesting though

One of the many things that annoys me about articles like that is the feel that all the money spent by the club comes from Mike Ashley's pocket.  It's as if the club has no revenue strings, no season ticket money, no sky money etc. etc.

The article mentions but glosses over the fact that only Anita was brought in the summer. I know it's been metioned countless times but a little more alleviation with budget would have gone a long way imo.

Also Ashley thinks the Europa League was a waste of time? says a lot.

I'm assuming the only thing stopping someone buying us is the 'interest free loan' they would have to pay Ashley back if he sold the club? Other than that, its one of the most profitable club in the Premier League with so much more potential. I'd be amazed if there hadn't been people looking into buying the club.

Maybe he actually does run Sports Direct the same way he runs NUFC.  The difference is that when he replaces someone at SD it doesn't make the national news.  For all we know the SD employees could all be sitting around going 'What the fuck are the geordies complaining about?  They haven't got close to the really good stuff yet.'

What is going on? Sir John Hall questions Mike Ashley's judgement

20 Jun 2013 08:00

Comings and goings at Newcastle United baffle Sir John while Freddy Shepherd says it’s all unbelievable

Newcastle United’s elder statesmen today branded the club’s latest saga “unbelievable” following a week of turmoil on Tyneside.

Derek Llambias’ decision to end his five-year tenure as managing director came just hours after Joe Kinnear officially returned to Newcastle as the club’s director of football.

Magpie chiefs faced a backlash over their handling of the reshuffle with supporters set to stage crisis meetings and fans threatening to boycott St James’ Park.

Now figures from the club’s history have attacked the club board and echoed the Toon Army’s desperation.

Sir John Hall – who spent 15 years as owner of Newcastle United – said the developments had caused “shock and anger”.

He told the Chronicle: “I’m shocked at the news that Kinnear has been appointed and Derek Llambias going. It certainly makes you wonder what’s going on behind the scenes at Newcastle United Football Club.

“There’s a man in charge there who knows what’s going on but for many of the fans they will be feeling anger and shock. I think everyone just hopes that it will be resolved quickly because the start of the season is upon us.

“Unless you know what’s going on behind the scenes it’s difficult to know exactly what has happened.

“These things happen in football – they certainly happened in my day – but we’ve got to hope that they are able to quickly resolve it for the start of the season.”

Kinnear, 66, revealed he was making a return to St James’ Park more than four years after a heart attack ended his stint as manager during Newcastle’s 2009 relegation season.

Joe Kinnear

Following negotiations in the Orange Tree pub in Totteridge, Barnet, in North London, close to the Sports Direct tycoon’s home, he was appointed as director of football.

But the ex-Wimbledon boss faced criticism for a bumbling radio interview in which he repeatedly mispronounced the names of the club’s players and officials.

Ex-Newcastle United boss Freddy Shepherd – who previously described Kinnear’s appointment as “ridiculous” – said: “This whole situation is unbelievable. Nothing surprises me any more with Newcastle United because these days anything can happen.

"They had done a terrific job of building bridges with the fans but now there are rumours that lots of people are leaving the club in a clear out. It means there will be negotiation over pay-offs and salaries.

“Newcastle United needs to sort itself out and decide who’s going and who’s staying. There’s too much uncertainty around the whole of the club.

“What they need at this minute if they are going to be successful is certainty and no-one at the club can put their hand on their heart and say that’s what is going to happen. “The whole thing is unbelievable.”

Malcolm Dix, the club’s honorary life vice president, said: “Having been involved with Newcastle United since the late 1960s or early 1970s I eat, sleep and dream it. This is just another episode in a long-running saga at St James’ Park.

“Derek Llambias was a good admin man as far as finance is concerned so it will be interesting to see if Mike Ashley replaces him. It could be that John Irving, the current finance director, gets to have a go because he’s a lovely lad.

“It’s only days since the gates were replaced and there was a beautiful rapport with the fans that was going wonderfully. Within 48 hours someone throws a bomb and we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

“Nothing surprises me when it comes to Newcastle United – but I’m always available if they need me!”

Chi Onwurah, Newcastle MP and Toon fan, said: “To say the team’s management is in turmoil is an understatement. Like most fans I just want it sorted in time for the game against Man City and hope it’s kept away from the players on the pitch.”

Doesn't look like there will be any progress at Newcastle anytime soon, after seeing Ashley and his "crew" pretty drunk and boisterous at Ascot today. They then happened to bump into a group which appeared to contain one of the Venky's from Blackburn, who was even more drunk than Ashley. I really wanted to go up and say something to him, but I was working and knew it wouldn't end well.

Only really saw them at the end when most people had left, he had his family and group of other people following him around. They weren't really doing anything bad, but just seemed to be a bit of a large and loud group, with Ashley strolling around like he owned the place. However I think they stood out a bit from the "upper-class" crowd, generally seen in the exclusive areas he was in.

He looked like he was enjoying himself, seemingly not worried by anything happening in Newcastle at the moment.

Mike Ashley ready to inject more funds to land new NUFC striker

22 Jun 2013 07:44

Mike Ashley is set to inject extra funds into Newcastle United’s transfer kitty in order to land a new striker

Mike Ashley is set to inject extra funds into Newcastle United’s transfer kitty in order to land a new striker.

The Chronicle reported last night that Ashley had sanctioned the search to bring in a new centre-forward following consultation with new director of football Joe Kinnear.

And next week United will sift through a list of options compiled from chief scout Graham Carr’s treks around the Continent in the last nine months.

Ashley is believed to have told Kinnear that he will pull in extra funds that won’t drain United’s current running costs.

Despite coming in for some serious flak from supporters, Ashley is keen to make sure United go into the new season in strong shape.

Alan Pardew has requested United maintain big names such as Yohan Cabaye, Papiss Cisse and Hatem Ben Arfa – all of whom have been linked with moves away from Tyneside in the last six months.

A striker has been a priority for some time for United, but Ashley is thought to be keen to accelerate transfer activity after Kinnear’s arrival. Kinnear, who has spoken of a centre-forward being the main transfer aim all week said: “Mike wants us to be successful He wants us to do something here.

“He doesn’t want us to be in the position we were in last season.”

Pardew had targeted fallen England international Darren Bent of Aston Villa in his transfer requests to Ashley.

But at 29, Newcastle still want value and potential sell-on prospects to remain strong, and Bent would be making his last big move in football with his 30th birthday coming long before the end of the season.

Pardew is still keen on Bent though and has to convince his hierarchy that he could get the best out of a player for whom Villa want at least 6million. Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang remains on United’s wish-list and is valued by top clubs at £13million.

The St Etienne striker is a sought- after figure, with Borussia Dortmund and AS Roma keen on the player too.

Certainly, if Ashley was able to land the signing of the Gabon international it would give fans some hope for the forthcoming season.

And it would also give the likes of Cabaye and Ben Arfa a link, both of them admirers of the man who grabbed 19 goals for St Etienne and 14 assists – something goalshy Newcastle were desperate for at stages last season.

Kinnear had also said earlier last week: “If we spell it out to Mike that it is a serious situation and we do need a quality striker, I’m pretty sure he will pay up.”

tbf as far as the first team goes that other forward  (though not bent) is what we need and i'd be very happy if we went into next season with our current first team and new striker.

obviously the squad needs some more depth but if we are just talking first team.

More talk, lets see action and improvement on the pitch.  Then and only then will the fans take on board what the hell they are trying to do.

The evidence of whats going on internally at the moment appears to the fans as disorganised.

The article basically going off the quote from Kinnear.

Let's hope it's correct - but all last summer we heard of Ashley's revitalised ambition only to bring next to no one in excluding Vurnon Anita.
