Mike Ashley

I think "affordable football" is his masterstroke.

1. It's made the quality of football less important, as the whole match-going experience isn't as costly as other clubs. It keeps people going for "a day out" rather than to support their team. It might help explain the subdued feeling around the stadium that many are now talking about.

2. It's a self-inflicted counter-argument as to why we can't invest. "We could charge you more and sign players - but you want low prices and we're good guys so we won't compromise".

Said this numerous times now, I think he's successfully removed the competitive agenda and edge from the club, it's not part of the core offering that is Newcastle United. Winning isn't important, the product is cheap but wears the Premier League brand.

I'll take my chances on getting Pardew out and seeing where it goes. Hutchison was writing about the poor job Pardew has done as well as Ashley and it was that I was personally referring to.

Who knows, perhaps a manager telling Ashley and the public he can get a team to compete in more than 1 game in 7 days, that Europe is good for the club and value of the players, that fans love to see goals and attacking football etc will change some opinions? It's a long shot, but it's a better shot than Pardew pissing all over everyone's cornflakes at every turn surely?

You're bang on for the most part about Ashley though, I agree.

I agree. Especially since the turn of the year Pardew has obviously not been good enough, and interestingly for the three years he's now been here 50% has seen top 6 form or thereabouts with the odd sighting of decent football (2011/12 and the first half of this season), and the other 50% has been relegation form or thereabouts (2012/13 and second half of this season). Normally you would expect Pardew to be able to keep us up (Ashley's "ambition"), but for the first time it looks like he's clearly lost the dressing room and the players are playing to get him the sack. That could force Ashley's hand, although I personally expect (not hope) he will gve Pardew the first few months of next season to see if the slump continues or not.

I also agree that it would be fantastic if the next manager could convince Ashley to get behind his approach and loosen the purse strings, but considering what happened to Keegan (and to a lesser extent Shearer) I'm under no illusion as to what would happen when a manager with the club's interest at heart challenges him on what he aspires Newcastle United to be. Add to that Ashley's track record for appointing managers, and next season could well be another shitfest with probable boardroom turmoil and a potential full blown implosion (relegation) regardless of whether he keeps Pardew on over the summer or not.

While I agree with what you're saying I can't bring myself to simultaneously want Pardew gone for all of the reasons we're well aware of and then be so bleak in my outlook that I've already judged what will happen next. I personally have to believe that by luck or intent something is going to change for the better, otherwise what's the point in wanting the change?

Managers can develop good football that people want to see without billions of pounds so I see no predetermined conflict of interest. Hopefully any potential real manager might get the chance to remind Ashley that being attractive on the pitch gets you more airtime and fans of other clubs watching you...

Once he actually appoints Ron Atkinson then I'll start looking up the Samaritans number.

We're looking for an English manager who Ashley personally knows from his pub or casino visits, who wants to play an attractive, attacking type of football, who is willing to be a yes man with no say in transfers (incoming or mid-season sale of best player), who can work on a shoestring (negative transfer budget), who is willing to defend whatever idiocy Ashley & co conjure up and finally who wouldn't cost compensation and who is willing to work on a pittance (in relative terms for a Premiership manager). Sounds good if such a man exists!

Touché

Really good point, the whole Premier League experience is what is on offer to "casual fans".

Come to Newcastle to watch Liverpool, Arsenal and Man Utd wipe the floor with the local team.  People will turn up to see the stars who play for other teams leaving us fans very isolated and un-necessary.....

Yes we know the plan, and I'm sure Ashley would love everyone to sit back and accept this journey to mediocrity, but as we have seen, the slightest sign of protest and his arse starts to get twitchy, just look at the press ban on local media for covering a small march. Therefore I consider it absolutely vital that fans make their opposition to a poor manager known vocally. Anything less than a Pardew Out campaign is in effect endorsing Ashley's model.

For some reason I still can't work out, Newcastle fans don't do protests anymore

Nobody wanted to rock the boat when the club had a posibility of being sold...Everyone took a step back when the club was promoted and things started moving forward.  Slowly but surely people have began to realise that Ashley is still up to his old tricks.

It looks like Rangers could be about to go back into administration, I wonder if Ashley will make his move ?

The move may also see Alan Pardew’s Magpies head to League One Latics for a pre-season friendly and could no doubt open the door for a relationship between the clubs that may see some of the Toon’s younger players lent out to gain valuable experience.

It's frustrating when you hear about Villa apparently getting a takeover this summer. We don't get a sniff.

Doesn't matter what anybody says, the only way to get him or Pardew out is not to attend and force his hand. After 40 year of being a season ticket holder I am not renewing as I refuse to have this regime taking the piss out of me time after time. I will be back when this occurs but to all of you supporters who are on here who are calling him and yet still going to the match, then I'm sorry but there is no way he is going if you are still attending. The only way to force him out is by not attending on mass and I'm prepared to miss out for a period of time until this happens. Some might not like this but for all you people still renewing then ultimately you're helping to keep him at the club.

I'm regretting the decision to renew more and more every day. Wish I'd jacked it in and bought a season ticket for Gateshead or just followed the Northern League about.

First time in my life I've got the money and time to have a season ticket (for me and the bairn) and I refuse to do it till Ashley leaves or starts acting like the club matters.

I personally hope no one renews and we drop out of the division again forcing the cunt out completely this time. No support in the championship and he's got no income at all.
