would them across the river be a better buy than us with ref to costs, wouldn't need much to get them back up, just a thought perhaps even the Boro

Aye, they're primed for a revolution iirc.

Gateshead ? ?

I doubt it. Buying them, paying off their debts and getting a squad to bring them back up to the Premier League would likely cost just as much, and even then you could invest the money to get them up for it to not happen.

Forest, Birmingham, Blackburn, Sheff Wed/Utd, Leeds, Norwich, Ipswich, Derby & Boro are all in a better position to invest in. Sunderland are fucked for a long long time.

So much for Rafa reckoning the players hadn't been talking about it.

“There’s obviously interest, which is exciting for everyone,” said Elliot.

“Hopefully, someone comes in who can take the club forward, which will be great. Hopefully, it’s a great thing for the club all round, so the club can kick on.

“The infrastructure is fantastic. As players, we can’t do a lot about it, we just watch the telly and read the papers like everyone else, but we just hope everything works out for the club, because we’ve been through a lot these past few years.

“But there’s now a positive vibe around the place, and we’ve got to make sure we continue with that.

“We want this to be a long term thing, where we’re always looking forward and not back.”

Former United players Yohan Cabaye and Andros Townsend were in the Palace side.

The pair chose to leave St James’s Park to further their careers.

Elliot, however, believes that Newcastle is no longer a stepping stone for players.

“This club is definitely not a stepping club any more, and it should never be,” said Elliot.

“Those days are gone now. The players here are all young, all hungry, but most importantly they are all wanting to play for this club.

“Last year, players left the Premier League to come and play for this club in the Championship, and that shows the size of us and also the fact the manager is here, the age of the players coming in.

“They’re here to develop and get better and take the club forward. We’re now in the top half of the league, and we can keep developing that, not just for this season, but hopefully for more to come.”

He’s sharp changed his tune.

Too late, Rafa doesn’t care for his crocodile tears and he will be shifted on as soon as he gets a replacement.

Crocodile tears? Nah, I just don't buy it.

Have a lot of time for Elliot (whey, maybe not as an ideal number one ) and can't recall seeing many if any interviews in the press or anywhere yet where he hasn't come across as being absolutely sound.

This. Seems like a decent enough bloke and sure that I've read he's a good influence in the dressing room as well.

Used to hate him because of his rumoured love of Pardew but like him a lot, maybe not as number one as you mention.

As recently as this evening he's tried to sell Merino to Barcelona, he's Alan Pardew the goalkeeper.

He said to fans that the club shouldn’t aim or expect to be any better than relegation candidates. Any player who thinks that of any club should never be allowed to play for that club again. He can get to fuck if he thinks he’ll get any sympathy from me.

Imagine Ashley bought Sunderland. [emoji38] How bad is their debt? They'd actually be a good investment for him if it wasn't too high. Big ground, can still operate in a region he's familiar with and the fans are already used to being relegated on a regular basis.

He'd probably turn them into a force just to spite Newcastle fans.

It was anything more than mid-table but the point still stands.
