Mike Ashley

As documented in the club minutes why is he ignoring the club sanctioned research that showed that successful clubs in the FA Cup are more likely to get relegated?

That was a few years ago now wasn't it? Around 2013/14? Still laughably baffling, though.

Of course and I'm playing devils advocate but as it was then and as it is now. It's nothing but posture and PR for/against the manager. In a normal club it'd be great, in ours it's pathetically predictable.

Im convinced Ashley is a follower of the the book "The Prince" by Machiavelli where one of the principles is to have an under boss to take all the shit that comes from his decisions.

We now have a bonus despute following a promotion to the Premier League which also occurred the last time we were promoted.

The last one resulted in little investment and selling off  our most lucrative player and also some of the more outspoken players.

So what happens next? And why are we going around in circles?

So instead of bettering his offer of £1m for finishing 17th and having a sliding scale up from that, he's instead offering £20m for winning the cup.

On the face of it a generous offer, but what he'll do is stick £400k on us at 50/1 (Plenty of sites offering those odds https://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/fa-cup/winner) and that's the full £20m covered, and Ashley has saved £600k against what was previously deemed a stingy offer.

Just curious, is 1m for 17th and additional 1m per place above good or bad offer compare with other clubs?

I ain't sure but say we finish 15th, that's 3m share among our first team players, on top from their basic wages and all other kinds of bonus.  No wonder footballers earn that lot nowadays.

The reason there was no transfer fund was that he gave EVERYONE employed at Newcastle United a 30% bonus for being promoted.  Even the Foundation got it, people coming away with £5k bonus at the end of the year was canny, and that was just as the lower end of the pay. Players got it too.

I'm sure Mike Ashley does want to sell NUFC. The only problem is he reportedly wants £450m for it which is way more than other clubs have gone for. He's held on to NUFC too long. The TV money has gone through the roof but so have transfer fees and player wages. The pool of possible buyers will have shrunk again due to the amount of money required to buy and fund a Premiership club. Also, the buyer has to accept that they'll almost certainly lose money rather than make money. We'd therefore need a buyer viewing their ownership of the club as a status symbol (e.g. Abramovich) or as a promotional venture (like the owners of Man City or PSG).
