Absolutely gutted for the bloke if anything truly severe comes from it. It's obviously an incredibly poor decision to chat away so candidly to someone holding a camera, but what exactly is the gotcha here? Is PGMOL suddenly not satisfied that he behaves in an impartial and objective manner because he thinks Klopp's a cunt for publicly berating him? Surely not, ffs.

I loathe how much top level football is about referees and officiating these days. However, you do wonder if - in times like these - there'd actually be some value in the likes of PGMOL actually acknowledging that the refs are human beings, rather than admonishing them beyond repair whenever that humanity is revealed.

In a nutshell because it’s a massive opportunity to virtue signal

The doctor in question, Andrew Wakefield,  was found to have falsified tests and all sorts. All Coote has done is call Klopp and say he thinks Liverpool as a club are walkers but there's been no question of bias on the pitch.

Coote was obviously well out of order to make such comments but, here’s the only but, referees are human and like policemen, like anyone getting dogs from an individual or an entity is it any surprise that  they take offence and have a strong opinion.

Klopp wasnt/ isn’t   alone in the delivering the level of verbal abuse that referees are expected to take on the chin so I would imagine the views Coote was expressing probably are mirrored by other referees maybe not all re matters Liverpool but based on their experience be it your club, my club or wherever.

I have been to every current PL ground save Ipswich. The two worse experiences I suffered were Man City and Liverpool.

City supporters in the closest section to us spent the whole game looking at us  more interest in jestering all game and were  quite comfortable throwing objects in the knowledge the stewards simply didn’t have a clue what to do but compared to the Anfield experience it was a joy.

It can’t be anything to do with Liverpudlians because the Everton experience was fine but at Liverpool prior to the game my wife was spat on and  we received the type of verbal abuse that was a level or two up from Cootes comments but once in the ground to be on the receiving end of abuse, suffering a direct hit from a urine filled ballon it’s easy to understand why someone has negative views re a particular club.

Cootes days are done as a ref but why is anyone surprised that a ref dislikes a club, dislikes an individual or comes to that even has an opinion because I am pretty sure every ref has experienced abuse and has formed an opinion or has a like or a dislike because after all they are human and we all if we are honest have opinions about those we have come in contact with in our working life who have verbally abused us, accused us or whatever.

Can't be arsed to read the last few pages in search of an answer to what I'm curious to know, but did Coote talk down Liverpool, the club, or just Klopp, the manager?

If only the latter, I feel it'd be quite harsh for this to end the guy's career as a ref. We're all allowed to dislike certain individuals no matter what job we have, as long as we do the job well :dontknow: But, on that note, has anyone come up with actual examples of Coote seemingly reffing Liverpool matches in favor of the team they play against? If so, is that a recurring happenstance with Coote or could it be random? As in Coote being a bad ref in certain games to the degree it seems like he's favoring one of the teams on the pitch?

If he went after Liverpool, the club, I fully understand and support his career as a PL ref being over. If he "only" went after Klopp, especially given the timing of the video (as I've understood it the video was filmed in the evening of the same day as he had reffed a Liverpool match where Klopp had been his usual whiny bitchy self and directed all of it towards Coote, both during the match itself but also ripping into him in the post-match interview?

Appreciate anyone bother to give me a run-down of the actual facts and story, only read bits and pieces here and there about it so far and can't seem to find a proper overview of what's been said, in what context and if the guy has shown any recurring dislike of Liverpool that could be seen in how he reffed matches involving them.

Should managers be finished for completing berating officials for 90 mins every game?

Where is there comeuppance?

We can hit two birds with one stone here - David Coote to host MOTD.

"And now we go to The London Stadium for West Ham v Liverpool…c'mon you f*cking happy Hammers, f*ck the Scouse b@stards up. Commentary by Jonathan Pearce."

He should get a slap on the wrist, but that’s all. Anyone that thinks referees shouldn’t hold negative opinions about people like Klopp that get off on yelling abuse in their face are idiots.

The problem you've now got is the media circus around Coote's next appointment. Everything will be about him and every single decision will be scrutinised (even more so than they already are). It would be unfair on whoever he officiated next to expect them to have to put up with this crap.

Didn't he just fail to give two stonewall penalties against Liverpool a few days ago?

I think it's more that he's just a shite ref than he has a bias towards one club or another. He consistently makes bad decisions, just as he did when making this video.

It’s not about whether he holds negative opinions, it’s about the fact that he’s voiced them publicly (unwittingly or otherwise).

He’s placed himself in an untenable position in terms of refereeing their games, or any game that impacts them, and as a result he’ll have to get booted.

Yeah.  I already glanced on the Sky Sports app and saw an article showing some 'big decisions' that Coote was involved with. Where they were not given in Liverpool's favour. Like it somehow proves he is guilty and anti-Liverpool. That's utter redtop bullshit from them, IMO.

You could compile a list of any decisions you want from all of the refs over the last 3-4 years or so and use them in isolation to make out they were biased for or against a club based on said decisions.
