Michael Oliver with a pretty terrible decision giving Arsenal a red today

Have you seen the replay/close-up of it? He puts the studs down the back of his legs. I still don't think its a red, probably an orange at most, but the decision doesn't look as bad as I initially thought.

All for that being a red.

Intentionally played the man with his studs into the shin with no thought about playing the ball.

Nah. I can see both sides of the argument. But absolutely no issue with that being a red.

Players do that going for the ball and can get a red card because of where the studs are and a raking, stamping motion.

Whether he means it or not. The ball is nowhere near and it’s clumsy as fuck if all he was trying to do was trip him.

I saw some comments going on like it was the softest red of all time. Then I saw it and couldn’t understand what the problem was?!

Had only saw one replay when I made that post and Twitter was suggesting it was because he was denying a goalscoring opportunity

Hadn't seen the alternate angle

I like Ian Wright, but think he’s wrong to go on like this. Wasn’t a terrible decision at all. Expecting refs to be unbiased when they can’t bring themselves as pundits to be unbiased.

I understand a pundits favouritism towards a club will come in to play every now and then, but the reaction to this decision is baffling, and I hope people come out and at least give the ref credit for the decision not being as clear cut as has been made out.

Seems to be an Arsenal thing. Keown is the same. You can tell an Arsenal fan up is down but they will swear blind that it's not if it involves their team.

Nothing showed that more obvious than loads of their online contingent claiming the Havertz handball wasn't against Villa. So seeing that today doesn't shock me that they will see it as more of the "conspiracy against them".

I feel like loads of people decided it was given as a professional foul and denying a goalscoring opportunity. When there is no way that would happen from that position on the pitch. And/or the first angle and the real time decision.

Then with all the evidence, new angles and the fact it’s confirmed as serious foul play. People have just doubled down and can’t accept it.

I don’t even think it’s particularly contentious.

Diabolical decision in my opinion. Those who said it was a red, would you include Trippier's foul in the 3-3 game with Man City as a red?

It's an Arteta thing. "The ball is too light." Just excuses and a desperate attempt to create a siege mentality that works with some of their fans (the online ones) and proper fans probably just look on thinking "WTF you on about mate".

They need rid of Arteta if they wanna win things. He's done alreet, but he's ran his course there for me.

Arsenal fans still hate Ryan Shawcross and Stoke City for that accident which broke Ramsey’s leg in a complete fluke of a challenge. It actually wasn’t even foul, he was just incredibly unlucky.

100% a red for me.

I normally defend hard and physical tackles but this is clearly late and just above/ankle height when contact is made. Nowhere near the ball.

Did he drag his studs down the City players leg then like?

It's made to look worse if you slow it down like with any late tackle. You can tell he's gone to tactically foul him rather than trying to be malicious.

It's never a red card like [emoji38] we talk about Arsenal pundit bias and Arteta etc, and I csnt stand him either, but people in here saying its definitely a red card etc are being clouded by their dislike of Arsenal and everything that  comes with them. If it was an Ipswich player sent off we'd all be saying what a joke it is.

He catches him slightly above the ankle but it's just a poorly timed foul, you see them fouls in every single game and it's a yellow card.

A tactical foul is malice to be honest.

I agree, i don't think it's malicious, yes he's trying to trip him, but in doing so he's caught him in a bad way. For me it's a red.

It’s not a poorly timed tackle though. He had no chance of getting to the ball, he’s gone to do him, and he’s only ever going to do him from behind as well. The fact that it prevented a counter attack as well just compounds it.

Crazy decision imo. Unless he's got the ability to view life in slow motion, I can't believe he's informed enough to make that call. It happens in a microsecond and it's not even that bad anyway. There's no intent, he just sticks his leg out to stop the breakaway and catches him.

Looks like another case of a ref making call in the hope VAR will correct it if it's wrong, but they won't because it's not wrong enough
