Dogawful Officiating

Pawson takes it for me. Banks was atrocious yesterday though, for a while he'd have been alright if you ignored his insane treatment of Woltemade but by the end he was just utter crap with everything.

Same old story of seeing every foul against us as a fair challenge we lost out on, but constantly giving them every tiny thing they lost out and falling for everything, including one where he waited until the exact point where I was about to finish the thought "ah woah, he hasn't given it" before blowing something like 5 seconds after the tackle. Utter shite

Can’t believe I forgot to post yesterday about how shite the referee was. I try my best to ignore referees so it has to be really annoying to post about it.

I try and have this approach. I just accept that they’re mostly crap and the way VAR is implemented is even worse.

But I he was shockingly bad. I’m not even that annoyed by the Woltemade ones. As quite a few he was trying to pin Diop and he had a double handful of shirt, as well. It was more how inconsistent he was with how much contact warranted a foul.

It just seemed like their players could just go down and it was a foul. Usually 3-4 seconds after the ‘foul’ had happened. Almost like the ref didn’t want any controversy if we went on to score. So took the easy decision every time.

Our players would often try and stay honest. Then nothing. Or we’d lose the advantage. Yet when Traore ran about 10 yards before Burn tackled him. He pulled it back and that wasn’t an advantage apparently

They were shithousing and committing snide, cynical fouls to stop breaks from the first minute. The ref seemed happy for this to happen all game and it’s laughable that only two of their players got booked.

The lack of punishment for the constant holding of Woltemade was infuriating.

Becoming a concern now. He gets nothing.  Like he's not allowed to complain because he's a unit. Terrible reffing.

Some really poor officiating yesterday, our game from start to finish felt very one sided, I genuinely think that Manchester reds were hard done by yesterday too and then there was the "play until Liverpool score" added on time yesterday that was infuriating to watch. What delights do we have in store for us today?

In a crowded field, Tierney is the worst for me- possibly because of how smug he always looks after each howler. Hooper and Banks are abysmal and Pawson is still trying to turn football into a non-contact sport.

There was a foul given on Saturday that is up there as one of the worst decisions I've ever seen. Fulham player sizes Gordon up, looks to shoulder charge him, takes a run up and... bounces off him to the ground. Gordon has stopped, the ball running away from him and looks at the ref, who puts the whistle to his lips and blows to award a free kick... to Fulham. Mind-boggling.

Also in the second half they did the coward's thing when faced with a dexision of giving either a goal kick to us or a free kick to Fulham (the right decision imo) but they couldn't decide so awarded a corner which is the one thing it definitely wasn't. So poor.

Even Louise Taylor has noticed it

On a similar note, I'm sure there is a law that actually mentions deliberate shirt pulling or pulling back of a player being a yellow card.  Perhaps when in relation to an attack.  Forget how it's worded, but something along these lines.  Yet players regularly just pull players back on a counter and get away with it.  I'm sure it happened in the Fulham game a couple of times when we were away.

This is one of the (many) things to have gone wrong in the last couple of years for me.

You can often get away with the more cynical stuff in terms of bookings but if you're a fraction late on a 50/50 it's a yellow card because you'll catch someone's foot or ankle, but going for a 50/50 is part of the game, it's not dangerous play per se.

A lot now seems to rest on the outcome of a challenge rather than the nature of the challenge itself. Son was sent off at Goodison Park a few years ago after Andre Gomes broke his leg, but it was a fairly innocuous challenge and the ref only gave the red after he saw the extent of the injury, ridiculous.

I also hate those free kicks and penalties where both players try to kick the ball at the same time and one just happens to touch the other one's foot. That's not a foul for me, it's just normal contact.

I guess they wouldn't be noticed before VAR but I can't really remember.

Agreed, contact doesn't mean it's a foul.

Referee last night was very poor again.

Inconsistent with decisions bordering on disbelief and equally bad for both teams. The bit where we broke up the pitch after Elanga tried to rugby tackle one of theirs (Djed I think?) and it ended up with them getting a yellow card 5 seconds later for something where there wasn't a lot in it would have had me fuming if it was us.

Seemed happy for one of their players to attach himself to Burn's arm every time they went in for a challenge. Then at the same time he was giving free kicks for next to nothing.

Makes it so hard for players on both teams to work out where the line is.

Ironically what Sky called the "controversial" calls were the ones where he was absolutely correct.

Tbf Burn should have been sent off and conceded a penalty, it was just for the wrong incident

On the first one was there enough contact to bring him down ? Just saying there's contact isn't enough.

Only seen the one replay from behind the goal, but contact like that in the box is a clear penalty imo

Contact by itself isn't meant to be an automatic penalty.  There's supposed to be "enough" contact for the player to go down.

For the first, denied, penalty shout there wasn't enough contact to warrant the player from throwing themselves into the air like they'd stood on a landmine.
