Dave
http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/129300.html?CMP=OTC-RSS Newcastle see third Tomkins bid rejected Harry Harris, ESPNsoccernet January 5, 2012 ESPNsoccernet understands West Ham United have rejected a £4 million bid from Newcastle United for defender James Tomkins. Newcastle, QPR and most recently Tottenham have been credited with an interest in Tomkins, 22, and the former had already seen two bids turned down before their latest offer. It has been speculated Tomkins has handed in a transfer request in the hope of manufacturing a switch, but the Hammers have moved to quash those reports. A source told ESPNsoccernet that Tomkins is "not for sale" and that "Tomkins has not asked for a transfer despite what has been written today." Tomkins has made 19 league appearances for the Hammers this season, with the club currently second in the Championship, level on points with leaders Southampton. Ketsbaia
£4m was slightly too much, just please give up and go to France or Holland.
Dave
Can't see us going back in a fourth time, and certainly not for the £6m+ they are surely seeking.
AyeDubbleYoo
West Ham fans don't seem to want him to go, so that's a good sign. £4m isn't expensive if he's young and has potential to improve, but I doubt we'll want to pay much more.
ShearMagic
Easy to see why we're going abroad. We'll be able to get a decent centre half from abroad for that price instead of gambling on an unproven youngster.
Dr Venkman
if it unsettles him we might get him towards the end of the window or in the summer, that's how we roll.

midds
If we're going to blow the beans on one single player then I don't want it to be on James fucking Tompkins. Look elsewhere please.

Dave
http://www.jarrowandhebburngazette.com/sport/sport-columnists/black-white/west_ham_chief_warns_newcastle_off_tomkins_1_4115989 WEST Ham chairman David Gold has insisted that defender James Tomkins is not for sale, despite a reported new bid from Newcastle United. Manager Alan Pardew refused to answer transfer-related questions during today’s press conference, but it is understood that a £4m bid had been tabled after the Magpies have already had two bids rejected. Pardew will be well aware of Tomkins’ talents, as the defender was part of the youth set up while he was in charge at Upton Park. But Gold has been quick to quash any rumours of the player handing in a transfer request. The Hammers chief said: “Let me say that as far as James Tomkins is concerned, he is a West Ham player through and through. “He has come through the Academy, he is loved by the fans, he has fought his way up, even since we have been here, and he has now come to the forefront and is a quality player. “We want to keep James Tomkins, we really do want to keep him. I think it is fair to say he is not for sale.” The 22-year-old defender has attracted a lot of attention from Premier League clubs after a number of impressive displays this season in the Championship. Both QPR and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with bids made for the defender, who is thought to be viewed by Spurs as a cut-price alternative to Bolton’s Gary Cahill and Blackburn’s Christopher Samba. Ex-Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce’s side are joint top of the table with Southampton, and Gold has confirmed that the club “will do everything we can to keep our best players”.
