dinotheprehistoricgeordie
Great news for the lad, would love it if he made it here. Also, just realized the reserves are still playing in the Northern Rock kits

BottledDog
Doesn't sound that promising considering Donachie hoped that some of the other teams scouts there might take a chance on the lad.

Dave
Journalfest. http://www.journallive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2012/01/11/jason-prior-impresses-on-trial-for-newcastle-united-61634-30098535/ The Journal understands Prior has been impressive in training and there have been encouraging noises from United’s top brass about handing him a chance to leap seven rungs up the football pyramid from Ryman South club Bognor Regis. United are due to make a decision before the end of the week but a short-term deal with Bognor Regis could be worked out – with 23-year-old Prior seen as a raw talent and drafted into Willie Donachie’s reserves. Dave
http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/newcastle-united/nufc-news/2012/01/11/doubts-over-jason-prior-s-future-with-nufc-72703-30098866/ Doubts over Jason Prior's future with NUFC by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle Jan 11 2012 NEWCASTLE UNITED coach Willie Donachie has tipped Jason Prior to make the breakthrough in the professional game – but hinted it may not be with the Magpies. Prior scored for the United second string in their 3-1 win over Wigan Athletic Reserves. However, despite remaining on trial, Donachie told the Chronicle: “I don’t know if he is going to be good enough for Newcastle. “There were a lot of scouts there, and hopefully somebody will see he has to be better than the level he is playing at. “He is a great lad, a lovely person with a fantastic attitude and he scores goals.” Scouts from Cardiff City, Hibernian and Norwich were all in attendance yesterday. Donachie added: “It has been a great experience for him and who knows? “It will be up to the manager to decide how far we take it. “It was a fantastic finish and he has shown in training he can score goals.” Prior has netted 95 goals in two years and when asked if you can transfer that prolific ratio to the top level, Donachie said: “You can learn it. “I remember when Alan Shearer was a young player at Southampton, and we asked about him. “They said we do not know if he is going to be a goalscorer and he learnt something!”
powellnufc
Even if he doesn't sign for us straight away, we might be able to get a first option on him and see how he develops in a lower league.
80
Gong on those Donachie comments, I think he's just being circumspect and avoiding stepping out of line, actually. Not wanting to get Prior's hope's too high kind of thing, just get him to embrace the opportunity instead of thinking it's Newcastle or bust. Don't think it means he definitely doesn't have a future here.
LesPaul
Sign him up and loan him out to a football league team to give him experience?
Guest
Even if we loaned him to Gateshead he's still 2 leagues higher than where he is now, really is massive what he's doing.
Dokko
Even if we loaned him to Gateshead he's still 2 leagues higher than where he is now, really is massive what he's doing. That would be a great move to make.
Tiresias
Sign him up and loan him out, would be gutted for the lad to have not made it with this opportunity. Don't care if he never makes it to our first team, worth the punt. Would hate it for him though if we did sign him and he barely got any game time with anyone, isn't there some rule that stops you loaning out a player as soon as you buy them in england? MKSC
My local club, Hampton and Richmond Borough (Blue Square Bet South) have players going for trials all the time. the guardian rumour mill (i think? or the bbc one?) said yesterday we were going to jump in on portsmouth's deal for dan thompson, funnily enough. any cop? To update on this, Dan Thompson signed schoolboy forms for Pompey for the rest of the season with the view to a pro deal in the summer. It's caused a bit of a stir as they have taken him and made no offer of compensation to H&RBFC at all. Legally they had no need to as he wasn't contracted to us, only registered for Blue Square games. Non-League clubs aren't allowed to offer contracts to players until they are 18, league clubs can at 17. It's been confirmed that he definitely came for trial up here though, and also at Liverpool and Stoke. He chose Pompey though, but they could still boot him at the end of the season with no cost incurred. They've loaned him out to Havant and Waterlooville, who are in the same division as H&RB.
