Our wingers

For the job they do, we might as well just play two competent defensive midfielders on the wings or another pair of full-backs.

It says a lot that perhaps Obertan aside, we could probably get away with playing any of our wide players (Simpson, Taylor, Gutierrez and Santon) in any of the four positions.

But the age of specialised wingers is over. Football's more and more a cat-and-mouse game. Etc, etc.

Imagine Demba Ba with wingers in the vein of Robert and Solano in their pomp on the flanks man.  :undecided:

Can only imagine that it must be infuriating for him watching our current pair clown around for 90 minutes.

I think that Jonas has significant strengths and weaknesses in his game, and which you choose to focus on determines how you rate him. Sadly, however, it's the weaknesses that have been conspicuous in his game over recent weeks. Maybe that new dog of his has interfered with his focus ... or, as has been noted, it could simply be the absence of competition for his spot.

As for Obertan, maybe I lack "vision" (presumably, along with Fergie and Co at Man U), but I just can't see sufficient potential to make him worth persevering with. Most worryingly, I think he lacks heart, and notwithstanding the odd eye-catching five-a-side flick, I think there's no evidence of a decent footballing brain. I hope to be proven wrong with him, but I don't think I will be.

Would like to hear Pardew's thoughts on what has been a glaring weakness in our team for some time.  Would also like to know what the fuck they're saying to Jonas and Obertan in training that's led to them never trying to skin a full back.

I, like many others, said Pardew was making a rod for his own back by saying he'd only ever play Ben Arfa up front.  It became an issue a few games back but it's taking the piss now, having more talented players sat on the bench for no reason at all.  Needs to be looked at seriously but I've no faith it will be.

All 4 wide positions need looking at.

None will be, of course.

Santon has showed enough in my opinion to be given one of the fullback slots long term but the other 3 positions need major looking at and have done for a long time......

Simpson, Obertan and Taylor are shite while Jonas works very very hard but has no end product at all.....

I actually am very happy with the middle of the team GK, CB's ,DM,CM,AM,CF ( while lacking some depth in some areas)

But the wide areas be it fullback or winger for the most part is truly truly awful.

We're playing a completely different way to early season, we were seeing some interchange between the central players and the wingers, 1-2s, some attempt at playing the wide players into space behind the full back, that's all gone.

It's all long ball, get it in the box from deep, work on your stats, proper Allardyce style shit. The boss has finally stamped his style on the team and boy, aren't we suffering.

I think the players are suffering as much as we are and I don't think we can change our game anytime soon as it's becoming ingrained.

Guest Roy the Irish Magpie

obertan and jonas have been poor. Taylor in rm would do better and give fergie a go on the left and always play santon in the team he's one of are actuall good players.
