Deuce
I'm sold. Get him and we can hopefully turn him into the next Freddy Adu. I'm not saying he's the second coming. But if we're looking for outside players (and considering the lack of any outside play this season, we should be), he'd come on the cheap and has a lot of promise. Many footie journos over here have said he's the fastest U.S. player they've ever seen. Could definitely do worse for a development project.

Cajun
*dusts off thread* Newcastle are vying with Lazio and Napoli for CSKA Moscow's Ivory Coast international striker Seydou Doumbia, 24, who could cost as much as £16m. (talkSPORT) 24? No way. http://img.uefa.com/imgml/TP/players/14/2011/324x324/250002480.jpg 34 more like. Dudes fucking old looking, if someone said he was 54 I would think 'looking good for it' but completely believe it at the same time.

Guest Rob 1988
Newcastle United linked with transfer bid for Manchester United's Joshua King http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11678/8133382/Newcastle-United-linked-with-transfer-bid-for-Manchester-United-s-Joshua-King Newcastle United are among several clubs interested in Manchester United youngster Joshua King, according to the striker's agent. The 20-year-old Norway international is under contract at Old Trafford until 2013 but has yet to establish himself in Sir Alex Ferguson's first team. King, who has had to overcome a spate of injuries, spent time on loan last season at Hull City and has also in his career made temporary moves to Borussia Monchengladbach and Preston North End. He has been linked with a permanent move away from Manchester in January and Newcastle are said to be interested after Alan Pardew's club were already being linked with Molde's Jo Inge Berget. But King's agent, Jim Solbakken, who also represents Berget, does not think his client wants to leave last season's Premier League runners-up. "I have discussed attacking options with Newcastle." Solbakken told VG. "There are many clubs who are interested in Joshua King but he is where he should be." "He could have joined many clubs during the summer but got confidence in the Manchester United organisation."
maze
What's up with all these mediocre Norwegians all of the sudden? EDIT: Well, it's only two. But then again, if Pardew wants a Norwegian, he might as well go for Mohammed Abdellaoue a.k.a MOA from Hannover.

Guest palnese
By Norwegian standards King looks a very decent prospect. Would offer some badly needed pace up front.

Kaizero
Gatt's good. Fast as fuck. Dunno if he's good enough for the PL though given how the defenders there can defend. King looked good in his two cameos on the national team. Got no basis otherwise to make a judgement. Though rather him than Abdellaoue purely down to the option of "King" on a shirt. Deuce
Gatt's good. Fast as fuck. Dunno if he's good enough for the PL though given how the defenders there can defend. Think he'd be better off in a league on the continent. He's not PL quality just yet, but he could easily play in better leagues than the Tippeligaen. Actually like to see him cut his teeth in the Eredivise for a couple years. Plenty of space for him to move there.

GuyP
Didn't Austin move for relatively big money to Burnley, therefore meaning we will have to offer substantially more? Also, if we had Austin up front, atleast he could open a can of whoop ass against the opposition...
Disco
Want new defenders? STOP TRYING TO BANKRUPT THE CLUB you ungrateful bastards. NEWCASTLE United have defended their decision not to bring in centre-back cover over the summer transfer window, with Derek Llambais insisting that the club must be “realistic” about the make-up of its squad. United have been stretched by a string of defensive injuries since the start of the campaign, with Danny Simpson, Fabricio Coloccini, Steven Taylor and Ryan Taylor all spending time on the sidelines with a variety of problems. For a club with pretensions of joining the Champions League elite in the coming years, it looks to be taking an unnecessary risk when transfer window expenditure might have mitigated some of the problems suffered in the last two games. Newcastle lost goals against both Reading and Manchester United due to defensive uncertainty. When asked by The Journal whether he now regrets the decision to call time on their summer pursuit of defenders, Llambias said the club had decided to stick to its financially stringent blueprint and had always been open about their recruitment policy. Newcastle’s managing director says the the club are targeting a situation where they have 33 players who are capable of playing first-team football at a high level but, for the time being, they categorise players by colour – with first-team regulars known as ‘purples’. At the moment they have eleven ‘purples’ and Llambias insists that the budget does not allow for many more in the squad. And with four players capable of playing centre-back, he says that it was simply a case of another central defender proving too expensive for the club. He said: “We’ve made it quite clear to everyone. We have 11 positions that are grade A players or ‘purples’, as we call them. “Then, under them, we have the players who come in to take the positions so the squad gets bigger. Eventually we’ll have 33 players who will be pushing for a first-team position. “Where we are now is that we have, in effect, 11 purples if you count Anita – he can play midfield, right-back, left-back. They are there. “In the centre-back area you have Colo (Fabricio Coloccini) and Steven Taylor, who are fantastic centre-backs. Could we bring in another centre-back then? You have Perchy (James Perch) who is doing a fantastic job, Willo (Mike Williamson) who is doing a fantastic job. “You can’t have two purples per position because the club can’t afford it. You have to be realistic.” Llambias believes Newcastle have made a reasonable start to the season and while there was disappointment at the defeat to Manchester United, he feels there was “no disgrace” in the Magpies loss. And with players heading back from injury – Coloccini, Taylor and Krul are all slated to return at the Stadium of Light – he is confident that results will turn for the better soon. “We have had injuries that we didn’t the season last year with. Those guys are coming back and hopefully they will be back for the Sunderland game,” he said. Meanwhile, Newcastle are sweating over an injury to midfielder Yohan Cabaye, who looks set to miss France’s friendly with Japan on Friday after reporting muscle pain. Cabaye has “abdominal” pains and, while France coach Didier Deschamps admits it is a concern, he has not ruled him out of Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against world and European champions Spain. http://www.journallive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2012/10/12/newcastle-united-s-colour-coding-explains-transfer-policy-61634-32016305/#ixzz294WUnoxv
WarrenBartonCentrePartin
just read that. Stupid. Surely having two 'purples' in the centre-half position is financially viable when one of ours spends at least half the season injured and one of our backups is looking further and further out of his depth while at the same time we're taking on extra games?
