Possibly De Jong joining in attacks more might give defenders something else to thing about. The hold-up problem still exists obviously, although really we should change our style to mitigate that, as you say.

de Jong's an interesting one, I think he's going to be a good fit for the league. He doesn't seem like he's going to provide much in the way of creativity but will make space with his movement and plays lots of interchanges and quick passes. It will be interesting, like, my gut feeling is that we'll get a good balance out of these players, even if, individually, they're not as good as the ones they've replaced.

Not sure if Papiss is the answer but if we only get Riviere he might be our only choice. Hope these new players are able to give him the chances he needs.

Cisse and Gouffran would be decent back-ups. We're in need of someone that has real quality, though, and another back up.

Despite what some journos are saying i cant see another signing on top of the expected Rivierre. Maybe we are working on a loan deal for someone as well?

They've probably put all their eggs in one basket and hope Remy comes back, or something daft like that. We need somebody that's going to cost at least 10 million so it's highly likely it won't happen.

Press still touting Campbell coming on loan as part of the Debuchy deal?

While I think he would be a nice addition to the squad wouldn't want us to be relying on Campbell or rivière next season.

Absolutely need a proven goal scorer to lead the line. No idea who that would be. I assume we are sitting tight hoping Remy doesn't get the move he wants and comes back. God knows who the back up would be when that doesn't materialize.

He's 12 goals in Greece don't convince me.

But aye let's give arsenals youth players premier ship experience and pay them for the privilege

  • 4 weeks later...

A few weeks of training and some more before he regains match fitness. Then we head into crazy December and after that, chances are good that he will leave for the ACON at the turn of the year before coming back knackered.

Cisse is finished here I reckon. Such a shame as it started out so unbelievably well for him.

I agree. The player probably had the most absurd purple patch you'll ever see but our style of play and Pardews complete lack of coaching ability pretty much put paid to any long term success.

Yes I think the combination of playing him on the wing and as a "target" man in a hoof ball system pretty much finished off whatever confidence he had. I'm not saying Cisse is entirely blameless but the Cisse when he arrived and playing confidently to more recent times is like night/day.

It goes back to Pardews complete lack of ability to coach players. He'll give the championship type players confidence but anyone with any real quality he can't coach or get the best out of either in 1 to 1 coaching or in the playing system as a whole. That's pretty much been proved with all our signings.

Cissés best form came, when the team was set up to accommodate him and the team was confident and attacking. He had Ba and HBA on either side and Cabaye was in and advanced position in the middle.

Maybe if he could get better service again with De Jong behind and Cabella and Gouffran/Riviere/Aarons on either side the goals could come? Janmaat and Haidara are also able to put the ball in the box for him. No more hoof ball and no more playing a poacher on the wing. He retained the number 9 shirt, so the club can't have given up on him entirely..

I would love for him to find form and confidence again.

Forgot about the ACON. 29 now - with his recent form, surprised they have not tried to flog him while they can. Maybe they still will.

They've spent the last year trying to flog him, all since Wongagate.

Numerous bids accepted in the last year; won't take a pay cut and wants to stay in the Premier League.

Highly unlikely that Cisse will ever show the form that he displayed when he first arrived.

His confidence is shot after playing under Pardew for so long and he is over 2 years older...his pace off the mark was never a strong point and will have declined even more now so I am not optimistic about his contribution. Probably could be used best a nuisance value to create space for new arrivals. Our style of play doesn't suit his type of striker at all.

Hope I'm wrong...

Cisse has been completely lost since he tried to force a move through religious grounds then was made a mug of when pictured in a Casino.

I've got absolutely no time for the guy, can't wait till he's moved on.

He needs good crosses to score goals, but the wide players we've bought look more like goal scorers themselves than providers. Aarons looks like the type of winger that Cisse would thrive off, and Haidara's crosses are far better to attack than Santon's. But neither of those is likely to be starting games much.
