I don't know what's worse. Di Canio's beliefs, or the fact a lot of Sunderland fans appear to be so f***ing stupid and ignorant that they won't see it as much of a problem because a) he's at their club and b) because of Di Canio's generally casual demeanour.

Whilst not excusable, their fans' views on the matter are at least understandable to the extent that they are just hoping for the best for their club. You have to seriously question the sanity of Short and the Sunderland board of directors though in making such a loaded appointment with no experience to speak off at such a critical time. It's like you've just lost  a small fortune in a casino and just before the casino closes you desperately throw the keys to your house on number 31 on the roulette table and cross your fingers...

They just never learn do they? With their'bring on the mags' style comments before every derby. Who's to say how the game will turn out, but they sure do set themselves up for a big fall.

they have an almost simpleton view on things. change manager= win derby.

raphael honigstein ‏@honigstein 2h

you can't expect a democracy & free press to give someone an easy ride who believes both should be abolished in favour of a dictatorship

Gabriele Marcotti ‏@Marcotti 2h

@honigstein very true. Except he doesn't believe democracy and free press ought to be abolished.

raphael honigstein ‏@honigstein 2h

@Marcotti then he's not fascist

Kelly Cates ‏@KellyCates 1h

@honigstein @Marcotti maybe we're overestimating his understanding of fascism.

I'm actually pleased - before this they were all resigned to defeat so beating them wouldn't have been quite as satisfying - they now have 2 weeks to whip themselves into a frenzy of anticipation before Shola crushes their dreams again.

I'm not sure I like where this is going. I much preferred the mackems as light-hearted figures of ridicule, this whole fascism thing isnt as much fun at all.....
