Tavernier looked comfortable from the moment the goal went in, tbh. He made a mistake for the goal but his all round game looks better than Simpson's already. Plus, if he actually learns from the positional error he made tonight then he's a better bet than Simpson, who makes the same errors every few weeks.

Good overall performance. Did the job, a few decent individual performances (Obertan looked much better second half) and no pressure to score in the home game. SHOULD be comfortable.

Plus, Amalfitano looked very bright. Hope we get to see him start a game soon.

Game lacked quality all over the pitch. Thought more of our second team players should have been pushing themselves more, especially Obertan, Marveaux and Gosling. Thought they didn't stake any sort of claim to be put in the side. Good result on the face of things though, no way will we concede at home, they were awful.

Job done pretty much. The second string hasn't really played together consistently so it was a choppy performance overall. Much like a pre-season game.

Will be a wonderful evening next week at SJP.

It'll be half full man.

I am a bit less confident of the whole just playing mostly our 2nd side in Europe theory after that. Have to say. We'll have to use quite a few first team players to compete atleast on that showing.

Professional away performance in the end, tonight was all about preserving the tie ahead of next week. If it wasn't for the Chelsea match we wouldn't have made as many changes and would have comfortably had too much for them IMO.

Job done.

Obertan-Shocking, a waste of a fast runner.

Tavernier-RB didn't look his strong point but would Simpson have looked better?

Gosling- did nowt.

Cissé- looked knackered/got no service.

Atromitos looked papa mind, they should get put to the sword big time up here.

Bigirimana, Anita, Perch, Amalfitano

Decent/acceptable:

Harper, Williamson, Jonas, R.Taylor, Campbell

Poor:

Tavernier (shocking start, solid the rest), Cisse, Obertan (horror show first half, OK second), Gosling

Good result, away goal gives us an advantage, nothing to fear especially on return leg.

Quick ratings

Harper - 6 - low cos didn't have anything to do but didn't save the one goal and had a dodgy kick out. Still did all required really was't to blame for goal.

Tav - 5 - Was dreadful first half, improved considerably second half, but still a mare. Need a new RB, it's too early for him to be the backup plan

Willo - 7 - Defended fine, still not best passer

Perch - 8 - becoming a rock at the back

Raylor - 9 - Did his job fine at LB, great freekick and good setpieces (would not get near this score against a decent winger has to be said)

Bigi - 7 - mostly very good but a few mistakes from his inexperience, needs to make sure he keeps concentration, but looks very very tidy

Anita - 8 - Very good passer, good presser, going to fit right in

Obertan - 3 - Did one or two decent passes, wasted endless more.

Gosling - 4 - really poor, was invisible mostly.

Marveaux - 6 - looked good at times but didn't have service

Cisse - 5 - messed up his main chance, wasn't getting service though

subs

Amalfitano - 6 - looks promising!

Jonas - 5 - didn't do anything apart from nearly giving ball away in threatening position

Campbell - not on long enough to give score really, had some lovely touches though. He'll be great

Our attack was blunted by Obertan and Gosling, Tav was asleep at the back and to blame for goal, otherwise was solid, with the attack sorted out we'll be fine. Arguably with Shola upfront instead of Cisse he'd be more liable to hold up play and bring other players into the game. Obertan wasted most our good attacks sadly.

Only times we looked like conceding was after a mistake, really confident going into the home tie. I think some of you are going to be surprised by how difficult this competition actually is, and besides, it was most of our players first match of the season tonight, I think that performance is very excusable.
