Unbelievable Posted November 9, 2012 Share Posted November 9, 2012 Left for Bruges at midday to meet up with a few of my Geordie mates, enjoyed a pint at the little square behind the Grote Markt before the match and got up to the stadium early to avoid not being able to leave due to not having tickets in the away end, but in the home end. It felt a bit like WW2 having to pass several police checkpoints but we managed by me doing the talking (in Dutch) and my mates keeping quiet. Continued pre match beverages in a pub close to the ground surrounded by Club Brugge fans. Managed to get in the stadium quite easily (long live automatic turnstiles) and politely clapped when Brugge scored as we were surrounded by quite fanatical Bruges fans. In the second half we moved to a quieter area in our stand and could speak and support NUFC a bit more freely. Unfortunately couldn't stay for post match festivities as I had to drive the whole way back home, but from what I've seen I have to hand a big compliment to both the Newcastle fans that were there, as I haven't seen any bother and the locals as well, who made us feel really welcome. Few others had a bit of bother in Brussels from a group of Moroccons agigitating for a fight. Personally had no problems.
