ilikenewcastle
Always been a bit sympathetic towards old Goofy. He was one of the few players who could genuinely claim to be 'pardewed'. He was a very effective player for us at one stage before he was transformed into a useless defensive sack of nothing under pards. If he'd left in 2014, he'd have gone down as a very good signing. Meanwhile, people like Sissoko and Mapou got a free pass for ages despite never really looking the part. Sissoko saved us from going down in 2013, man. Never looking the part for f*** sake. Sissoko looked the part way before (and after) Gouffran. Maybe I was a little harsh on him, but saying he saved us in 2013 is pretty generous. The man has never performed consistently for us. He's been our only outlet for the last few years and generally when a player's value goes up it suggests he's been doing something right. Whether you like him as a person is a separate issue but this has been done to death anyway. I'm in a good place right now where if we sell him we'll get £20m+ and if we keep him, we'll keep one of our best players who'll scare the shit out championship defences. Ronaldo
What's his ability? He has no pace left, no ability to beat a man, find a man, keep the ball under pressure. He poached a few goals a few years ago basically playing out wide as an unmarked forward.

TRon
Gouffran was picked yesterday just to do a job, mainly because we didn't have Sissoko or Diame available. He'll probably be sold before the month's out. I think Rafa was happy enough with the shift he put in but he's obviously not in his plans once we get our squad settled. Ronaldo
Rafa's twice said or strongly implied he doesn't see him as first team player this summer. You'd think he's off.
Ronaldo
It's more the fact you think a 'tidy' player who's not fast or slow is more worthy of a place than Aarons, dude.
Disco
It's more the fact you think a 'tidy' player who's not fast or slow is more worthy of a place than Aarons, dude. I don't think that. I said he showed more last night than Aarons has in ages. Obviously long term I'd love Aarons to succeed, but he's been woeful recently, and Gouffran played well last night. Whey, that opening gambit is a lie for starters. Aarons was absolutely ridic against Spurs last season, a game you were at.
TRon
Aarons is obviously the better player, but he's been a liability so far this season. Hopefully it's just a blip and he'll get the pace of it, but I think Rafa just wanted a safe option with Gouffran. He's not a wide player, but he puts the yards in and can pass it simple. Hughesy
Do think people go a bit over the top about the level of our players sometimes - in both directions. Gouffran is clearly capable of being a squad player in the Championship ffs.

Tiotes Witch Doctor
Gouffran did OK last night without being spectacular or eye catching, but he was given the full game to impress unlike Aarons who had 10 minutes last night, 10 minutes against Fulham and 45 minutes against Huddersfield. He hasn't looked great but is that really enough time for a player to impress, especially one we've seen more than enough from to suggest hes a great player in the making? I'd like to see him given a run of games without being subbed.
xLiaaamx
Always seems useful when we're attacking set pieces. Makes a nuisance of himself.

DJ_NUFC
Gouffran is a beacon for mediocrity. It's settling for the fat bird who hung around you throughout high school instead of hitting the gym, reading books, developing a sense of humour and a sense of individuality to try getting the bird you really wanted. It's sitting in a job you don't hate but don't love either, for 8 hours a day, waiting until the day you can retire on your pension at 65, and let life pass you by. That's what it's like to see Gouffran starting for us in 2016.
mozy
Gouffran is tidy because he doesn't attempt anything remotely ambitious or try to take anyone on. There are times when that kind of player is useful.

Ronaldo
Gouffran is tidy because he doesn't attempt anything remotely ambitious or try to take anyone on. There are times when that kind of player is useful. But probably not when we're trying to win the league while playing two sitting midfielders. We need 2 wingers who can beat men and drive the team forward.
Yorkie
We won comfortably with him in the side last night so that might suggest he isn't the worst squad-filler when our two (hopefully three come Sept) wingers need a rest.
Ronaldo
We dicked Ipswich with Zurab Khizanishvili in the side too.
Yorkie
We dicked Ipswich with Zurab Khizanishvili in the side too. That's basically my point. Not that I think we've got the infrastructure to carry average/poor players in the same way we did last time. Gouffran might do alright though. Ronaldo
Winning games with shit players in the team doesn't mean they're not shit players. I'd rather have a promising young winger in there getting pitch time and valuable experience, not some waste of a shirt like Alsoran occupying a squad place. Yorkie
Kk. I'll give you a few minutes to decide which of our plethora of promising wingers you'd rather play.
