jdckelly
That's why pundits should never, ever be ex players. It's such a small group of professionals that ultimately they'll be slagging off their mates. At least they should mix it up with a few journalists or just people who know football and speak well. aye, one of the things ESPN have done right with their coverage of Serie A and the French League is getting Journos on to pundit the game and who know the league and the players involved rather than just random ex players. Guest firetotheworks
Gary Neville shows that you can be an ex-player pundit, seriously know your stuff and be able to call a spade a spade, provide insight and be critical without going o.t.t in search for ratings or controversy. I don't think it shouldn't be ex-players, it just shouldn't be shit pundits.

His style is more analytical and less judgemental/sensational so he can get away with it.

Tooj
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22047043 Roberto Mancini says Manchester City would still be challenging for the Premier League and Champions League titles had he been able to sign his principal targets last summer. "We would probably be at the top... probably also in a Champions League quarter-final," the City manager said. "We had a chance to get three or four players that would have improved our team but now it is finished with." And he added rivals Manchester United "continued to improve their team". All five top targets identified by Mancini last summer opted against joining City. Those at the top of the Italian's list were understood to include Netherlands striker Robin van Persie, who instead joined Premier League leaders United from Arsenal, and Belgium's Eden Hazard, who signed for Chelsea from French side Lille. Additionally, Athletic Bilbao's Javi Martinez chose Bayern Munich, Daniele De Rossi stayed in Italy with Roma and City refused to meet Liverpool's £27m valuation of Danish centre-half Daniel Agger. However, the Italian still spent £52m last summer on players including Javi Garcia, Matija Nastasic and Jack Rodwell. That was a greater total than Manchester United counterpart Sir Alex Ferguson, whose chief purchase was the £24m capture of Van Persie. "We had the chance to get important players, players that this year could have been the difference in this team," continued Mancini. "But it is useless to talk about this now." Fuck off. Beren
Weak as piss, but some will buy it. If the joint richest club in the league can't identify an affordable upgrade on Gareth Barry in time Mancini's had, he doesn't deserve to keep his job. You're just shit Mancini. David28
He could start not to play Barry and Milner all the time before talking about new signings.

He isn't shit, to be fair. Largely done a very underwhelming job, though.
Mole_Toonfan
If Mancini hadn't done such a shit job of building his squad and leaving lots of weaknesses in key areas while overdoing it in others he wouldn't be complaining. Its his own fault that squad is so f*cking imbalanced.

For a team with their resources you don't think it's professionally incompetent to continue to have Gareth Barry as one of the first names on your team sheet? You'd be fuming if it was your team, and rightly so. Relative to where the clubs are at, I'd rate it as being just as bad as having three centre-backs at Newcastle for 18 months (or whatever it was) until MYM got here. Can't disagree with any of that, tbh. He deserves praise for last season, though. Not the easiest thing in the world to do, trying to make a team out of individuals motivated completely by money. BillClinton
So they get to play the Manchester derby on the latest possible time slot, yet ours is the earliest it can possibly be? That's fair. Fair enough. I just remember the N. London one wasn't early either, so it's annoying how obviously biased it is. I guess I should be used to that by now though. (plus it's kind of aggravating having to get up and have my nerves shot at 7 am here just because you all don't know how to behave yourselves )
