Couldn't give a shite about Cabella, like. We could keep him and give him another chance, but if the opportunity is there to invest on a better player who's more suited to playing on the wing then I'm all for it.

Such a rubbish signing, Cabella. Was blatantly never, ever going to work given the manager.

Our transfer deals have been absolutely all over the place for years now like. We either sign shite (a), don't sign anybody (b) or sign value/potential where its not needed © or are ripped off because we're trying to make up for the previous mistakes of a, b and c.

I mean, let's try and compartmentalize this. Our dealings from getting Ben Arfa permanently in Jan 2011 up to getting Cisse permanently in Jan 2012 were largely great. Carroll went, which was obviously fucking horrendous, but we cleared out the old guard (Barton, Nolan) and we signed HBA, Ba, Cisse, Santon, Cabaye with the money and the team improved dramatically in a new direction because of it. Probably the biggest improvement since we signed Robert and Bellamy. We were all critical, but there was a plan and it worked and you could credit it.

Since then, however, it has basically been a shambles. We then spent the following summer signing just 1 player (Anita), who we didn't need and hasn't once looked suitable to a role we could use him for in the PL. This lack of investment led to a catastrophic season, where we flirted with relegation and subsequently had to desperately sign 5 players in January (Debuchy, Mapou, Haidara, Sissoko and Gouffran). These signings ultimately saved us, but they either turned out to be cheap shite (Gouffran), misused/unsuitable (Mapou), sold relatively quickly (Debuchy) or of questionable long-term potential (Haidara). Only Sissoko has been a relative success out of this batch, and for £1.5 million he was a great deal regardless of what you think of him as a player. Then, the next summer we again returned to our policy of signing absolutely fuck all. We also reneged on our supposed 'no loan' policy in signing Remy and then De Jong in January. We however sold Cabaye in January, and saw another absymal run of form that led us to a point of needing to rebuild again (obviously now without Remy). This leads us to last summer and another rebuilding job necessary thanks to the mismanagement; we sign De Jong and Cabella, both who are seemingly at best in the same position, one of which is a crock and one of which is unsuited to the PL. We also sign a plodder like Colback seemingly to simply get one over on Sunderland and Riviere, one of the most clearly from day 1 dud centre forwards you could ever wish to see. Then we spent £7 million on two players from Forest who couldn't even play for us for a year.

There has been some bargains in there, like Perez for example.  But he was originally meant to be part of the reserve squad FFS. The cunts got lucky on him. Janmaat, despite being a STUPID FUCKING CUNT, was a solid replacement for Debuchy. In general though since January 2012 the overall plan has been inconsistent, the recruitment too narrow, there's been too many poor players signed, too many players signed that didn't fulfill required positions (sign centre backs you stupid cunts) and just a total lack of consistent, decisive and effective squad building. Seriously, considering the pull of the club who's recruitment in the PL has been worse in that period? Probably Sunderland's, that's about it.

It's been an absolute fucking shambles, and now we're at the point where we're needing to sign about 6-7 players to begin to turn it around.

Don't want Cabella to leave, but if he's not going to play centrally then Thauvin is probably more suited to us he's a better wide player for this league imo. He's been playing the #10 role for Marseille this season though. Good deal for us and OM imo.

bit odd its not more smaller fee and cabella full transfer than this deal, not seen enough of him to judge but a shame they're apparently giving up on cabella so easily, he wasn't good last season but a player to a new league should always be given a season to adjust

I'm really not a fan of Cabella, but surely we have higher priorities than spunking big money on this guy.

Aye.

I'm just going to say it, if Cabella's the only player we get rid of with the players we've signed along with this guy, we've had a good summer.

No fucking way, man

If we sign another centre back and a left back then we've had a cracking summer, but as it stands we are going to have signed 4 top players that by all accounts are highly regarded, and are going to improved our first team (Not hard, but still ) and with only one senior player leaving that represents decent business, not great or outstanding but just a decent to good summer.

I know its not what people what to here, but you can't really have a complete overhaul of personnel in one summer, it generally doesn't work. If we were to sign 7-8 first teamers, it would take them half a season to not only get used to each other, but to get used to the league and to the UK. If we were to leave it as it is, let the players that have been in the league for years, help train the new signing then come January get another 2 or 3 players in, around the same valuation of the players weve signed this summer, and then get them used to the pace of the league, then next summer sign another 3-4 players, and so on, that would be good business, and show actually planning a thought from the board. Obviously it'd be nice to sign a few more players this window, hopefully defenders but it just makes sense from a logistical standpoint to do it steadily, and if we do that, and use this coming season as a transitional year, which it would be anyway with a new manager coming in and trying to instil his philosophy, and at this point next season we are in a position to really do something, then I would be more then happy, obviously its a big if one thats going by record probably wont happen, but still it'd be happy with it.

Fyi i'm not saying not to sign anyone else, id fucking love it if we signed another centre back and left back, but i'm just saying the above makes sense.
