Cabella's best games came under Carver iirc. Chelsea & Hull.

That 6 game Pardew win streak looks amazing now.

We get it, you want to bot him, please stop derailing every thread to make it about your Croydon based muse.

It's the only strand of good form we've had in 2 1/2 years.  Don't think we've won back to back games since. Or for a long time previously. This team has been relegation fodder (not battle - real relegation) for 3 seasons apart from that run. Ever since Cabaye left.

Liverpool and Spurs.

Despite everything - Cabella remained motivated for his entire stint at Newcastle. Can't say the same for this lad

cabella had more chances to play in a team that wasn't half as rancid as this one before he got that injury iirc

thauvin has started 3 and had 10 sub runouts for 420 mins or so of league action in one of the worst teams in the division

You think the team was better last season? Not a chance.

Of course it fucking was, until Carver got his hands on things we were around mid take

We were pretty god awful in the first half of the season as well, bar a Pardew jammy as fuck winning streak.

I'm pretty sure even during that 6 match winning streak most of us were wondering how the fuck did we do that? The football was awful and we could probably have lost all 6 games as easily as won them.

Feel for this guy. Never got a proper chance. If he stays past January I would like to see him get a chance on the right with Townsend on the left. Could be a different story with two proper wingers in the side. Although I don't know where sissoko would fit in the side then

Terrible decision making all round regarding Thauvin. I remember feeling so optimistic when he signed about what he may bring to the team. Unsurprising, I remember given it was like two minutes ago!

Sadly, it's not our decision. He is the one who wants to leave, rightly or wrongly, because of the stick he received at Watford.

While I thought that stick was disgusting, I don't think he can hide behind that if he wants to get away.  Anyone who has such a fragile temperament has no place at a club like Newcastle anyway. It's a shame because the lad clearly has talent but found the pace of the premier league too fast for his liking.

I'm not sure I'm following this at all like, Thauvin has just decided he can't deal with the stick he got and he has to leave so the club are just saying "aye no bother" and spending £12m to replace him then letting him go wherever he wants while presumably still covering his wages to a degree and then maybe flogging him for a massive loss after a few more months? Which is what they just did with Cabella.

All seems incredibly one sided to me and I'm rather amazed that the club like Thauvin so much to give him exactly what he wants at the cost of £12m. He must be a really nice kid I guess.

Or maybe he just doesn't want to be here, doesn't like being tackled and wants to follow his girlfriend back on the next flight to Paris, Marseilles or whichever stylish French region he hails from. In any case, he's only going out on loan, maybe he will get to try again here next season assuming he's got the appetite for it.

The point being it's not a one sided arrangement Tron.

It kind of is though isn't it. Being a footballer is no different to having any other job in a lot of ways, and at the end of the day they're just people. In your line of work, would you kick up a fuss and resign / ask for a transfer to a different office etc if you hated where you are?

Ah the old compare it to working in an office argument.

The only way it's that one sided is if he's gone on strike or refused to play imo.

Perhaps you know more about the behind the scenes efforts to integrate the lad but the on field efforts have been laughable, as they have with many other young foreign players we've signed.

But aye it could all be them I suppose.

He's a fully fledged propaganda spreader at this point.

Says a lot about his character if he just wants to give up after a few months. Hasn't been given enough of a chance but not convinced he'd do any better if he was. Cabella, who I didn't like was a better player easily on evidence so far. Was ridiculous to let Cabella go in hindsight, his main problem last year was getting knocked off the ball easily which players generally adapt to after their first season

Any player who values their career would do the same. We clearly haven't even tried to sort him out, it seems like McClaren saw him throw a hissy fit and has took full advantage of it to alienate him completely in an effort to get a new winger.

At least Cabella tried to protect the ball and won us a few free kicks, Thauvin just hands it over at the slightest hint of a challenge.

This is how I feel like. Did Cuadrado (sp?) have a bad character when Chelsea shat him out of the club after a few months.  Iirc everyone laughed their arses off at the club not the player.

Don't know much about Cuadrado's character but he moved to Juventus, one of the best teams in Europe, not straight back to his comfort zone at the team he was at

The point is Cuadrado was sent out of Chelsea following a big transfer without being given a proper chance on the pitch. Most people rightly laughed at the club and Mourinho saying it was utterly ludicrous, but most people here are intent on putting all of the blame on the player while conveniently overlooking how badly the club have handled the lad.

It's a two sided thing for sure but just because a mentally fragile young lad asks to leave after hardly being played and then given abuse at a match the club don't have to say "aye go on, fuck off then son" and spend £12m on a replacement.

EDIT: I also can't help but think back to HBA either, another shit English manager not able to handle a mercurial flair player.  It's no accident these rumours about Thauvian's "character" come out, just as it wasn't that HBA was hated by all the players and staff etc.

Again, like Cuadrado, no two situations are exactly comparable and HBA showed a lot more, quality, strength and character on the pitch than Thauvin has to date but I'm not convinced the club should just accept the situation and throw him to the wolves like they're doing.

Sorry to go all ITK, but I did actually hear from a couple of people that HBA wasn't that well liked in the dressing room.  Not that I gave a fuck or that it changed my opinion of him.  Every team I have ever played for, there has usually been at least one diva/arrognat fucker/all round bellend etc.  If they're good enough, then who cares?  You're not going to get a squad full of model pros and nice guys.

Unlike the HBA situation, I'd hardly call Thauvin a flair player.  In his limited time, he looked slow and weak and didn't really do a lot.  Whereas HBA had proven time and again, that he could be our match winner and make things happen.  The only similarities I see are that they're French, can play out wide and both have played for Marseille.  I don't think the situations are comparable.

I don't like how Thauvin was used as a scape goat by our fans.  He shouldn't be shouldering much of the blame, when there have been players playing week in, week out, who have been utter tripe.  Who are seemingly getting a free pass with a lot of our 'fans'.  But I also don't like how he's cried off at the first sign of trouble and I don't buy that it's all the clubs doing.  I fail to see why they'd sanction a £12m deal on someone, then 6 months later, fabricate a load of stories, just so they can ship him out on loan and then probably lose a shit load of money on him?  Makes no sense whatsoever.

see i'm not saying it is "all the clubs doing" but as hans said this narrative allows them to get rid of the player with it looking like it's his fault entirely rather than anything to do with the club, and then to back mcclaren with the likes of townsend to replace him which fits the "we need more english players with PL experience and quality" narrative (which townsend barely qualifies for tbh

the player shouldn't be running at the first sign of trouble but perhaps he doesn't feel he's been given any sort of backing or support from the manager....i'd argue he'd be correct if that were the case

This could be blind stupidity on my part but even if he does leave on loan I don't think it'll be the end of his career here even if he does go out on loan, assuming we're still in the Premier League next year which isn't looking likely. He's obviously lacking confidence and needs game time to get that back but given our dire situation we aren't in a position to do that. After this summer Sissoko will almost certainly be leaving and Thauvin could get a regular starting role in his natural position.

Unless ofcourse he just really hasn't settled here and is unhappy. It'll be such a waste on what was a promising start.

This whole saga has been rather embarrassing for the club though, I can't see how it would negatively effect any future attempts to sign any young players in France. We've made ourselves look like right mugs.
