The College Dropout
Aye, squad was worse last season (but so was most of the league). I mean... we regularly fielded a cenral mid of Gouff & Jonas. Riviere up top. Willo at the back.

Minhosa
I hope Cabella comes back. He is so much better than Thauvin and deserves another shot. Hasn't he already been sold? Think he is on a loan deal. It's loan to perm I think.
Scoot
We should have just kept Cabella. Started looking a bit brighter in the second half of last season, another pre season with us and a year of adapting. Pretty certain he would have been more effective this season. Pointless signing was Thauvin. Exactly my point of view. Then we could have spent the £12M we spunked on Thauvin on a good centre half in the summer. BrickTop
Despite everything - Cabella remained motivated for his entire stint at Newcastle. Can't say the same for this lad cabella had more chances to play in a team that wasn't half as rancid as this one before he got that injury iirc thauvin has started 3 and had 10 sub runouts for 420 mins or so of league action in one of the worst teams in the division You think the team was better last season? Not a chance.

The squad was awful last season. Not that it's much better this year, mind. We've been shit for quite some time. Yeah it was but this season has been much worse to this point, no doubt about it

The College Dropout
It's the only strand of good form we've had in 2 1/2 years. Don't think we've won back to back games since. Or for a long time previously. This team has been relegation fodder (not battle - real relegation) for 3 seasons apart from that run. Ever since Cabaye left. The College Dropout
That might be the only tim and that was even jammy. 3 in a row? Point is - we've been God awful for a long time. Almost as long as Villa.

I'm pretty sure even during that 6 match winning streak most of us were wondering how the fuck did we do that? The football was awful and we could probably have lost all 6 games as easily as won them.
olliemort
Feel for this guy. Never got a proper chance. If he stays past January I would like to see him get a chance on the right with Townsend on the left. Could be a different story with two proper wingers in the side. Although I don't know where sissoko would fit in the side then
SEMTEX
Terrible decision making all round regarding Thauvin. I remember feeling so optimistic when he signed about what he may bring to the team. Unsurprising, I remember given it was like two minutes ago! Sadly, it's not our decision. He is the one who wants to leave, rightly or wrongly, because of the stick he received at Watford. While I thought that stick was disgusting, I don't think he can hide behind that if he wants to get away. Anyone who has such a fragile temperament has no place at a club like Newcastle anyway. It's a shame because the lad clearly has talent but found the pace of the premier league too fast for his liking. I'm not sure I'm following this at all like, Thauvin has just decided he can't deal with the stick he got and he has to leave so the club are just saying "aye no bother" and spending £12m to replace him then letting him go wherever he wants while presumably still covering his wages to a degree and then maybe flogging him for a massive loss after a few more months? Which is what they just did with Cabella. All seems incredibly one sided to me and I'm rather amazed that the club like Thauvin so much to give him exactly what he wants at the cost of £12m. He must be a really nice kid I guess. Or maybe he just doesn't want to be here, doesn't like being tackled and wants to follow his girlfriend back on the next flight to Paris, Marseilles or whichever stylish French region he hails from. In any case, he's only going out on loan, maybe he will get to try again here next season assuming he's got the appetite for it. The point being it's not a one sided arrangement Tron. It kind of is though isn't it. Being a footballer is no different to having any other job in a lot of ways, and at the end of the day they're just people. In your line of work, would you kick up a fuss and resign / ask for a transfer to a different office etc if you hated where you are? Ah the old compare it to working in an office argument. The only way it's that one sided is if he's gone on strike or refused to play imo. Perhaps you know more about the behind the scenes efforts to integrate the lad but the on field efforts have been laughable, as they have with many other young foreign players we've signed. But aye it could all be them I suppose. He's a fully fledged propaganda spreader at this point.
triggs
Says a lot about his character if he just wants to give up after a few months. Hasn't been given enough of a chance but not convinced he'd do any better if he was. Cabella, who I didn't like was a better player easily on evidence so far. Was ridiculous to let Cabella go in hindsight, his main problem last year was getting knocked off the ball easily which players generally adapt to after their first season

We clearly haven't even tried to sort him out, it seems like McClaren saw him throw a hissy fit and has took full advantage of it to alienate him completely in an effort to get a new winger.
