I went to most games for over 19 years. I was treat like a criminal once, and that was in Marseille.

And that rule, by the sounds of it, would be about as difficult to get round for Mike Ashley as a fence made of sticks and sellotape.

Beer in the stands, for crying out loud. As if that lends itself to a significantly better matchday experience - especially coming from someone talking about the liability of alcohol to the taxpayer a few weeks backs.

Do German grounds have much bother as a result of allowing beer in the stands?

Dont' think so.

Only seems to kick off in very localised derby/rival games.

Germans can be trusted unlike the English though...when it comes to drink

Yep exactly, although people here do get more tanked up in the lead up to the game and at half time as a result of having to go without for a bit, myself included.

Why? What's better about the Bundesliga than can feasibly be replicated? We've got a more lucrative league of far better footballing quality.

This is certainly debatable from the absolute dross the premier league has been this season.

The general footballing standard is better in the Bundesliga, even if the Premier League is traditionally a more attractive proposition and able to attract better players. The Bundesliga offers a generally better standard of football with considerably less resources, I'd say.

I hear the Germans got a bit "tanked up" a while back, though.

Absolutely, a better product all round really.

Why not support a team from there, then?

What a weird thing to say/ask. I support Newcastle since I lived there for two years. Maybe if I lived in Germany and had some match going mates I could grow a fondness for a German team.

Fair enough. Just winds me up the usual suspects downplaying the PL all the time. There's a reason none you watch the Bundesliga as often.

Funny coming from you, seeing as you have no qualms about ridiculing other countries' leagues at every possibility.

In recent years the Bundesliga has grown massively in stature and international appeal. Certainly I know people over here who follow it much more closely than the Premier League these days. It's quite obviously becoming a stronger competition every year too, as evidenced by German clubs' results in Europe and the strength of their national team largely made up of players earning their corn domestically.

I love Newcastle United and the Premier League, but then I am biased, not least because of my dislike of everything German. Objectively their football has come on leaps and bounds in the last decade. The fact that they've been able to develop so much whilst respecting their fans' interest is very creditable and certainly deviates from what we've seen in England unfortunately.

 The experience I had of watching football in Germany was so far removed from watching a game of here nowadays.
