Interpolic
Because we're not Cardiff? We've won as much as they have in the past 40 years though haven't we? We aren't exactly a bastion of stability or success. The kid might as well push like fuck for a move to Boro or Portsmouth or Wigan. What a tit saying stuff like that, when you're meant to be a fan of NUFC and aware of all that the club has to offer in comparison to daft little clubs like Cardiff. WarrenBartonCentrePartin
Because we're not Cardiff? We've won as much as they have in the past 40 years though haven't we? We aren't exactly a bastion of stability or success. Cardiff as a club have never played in the PL unlike Palace and Hull and neither have the majority of their squad. Their manager has never managed in the PL unlike Bruce and Holloway. There's every chance they could head straight back down.
Dave
@paulfraserecho #NUFC genuinely interested in Downing, but would imagine it would be like the Bent situation. Both players are same age and big earners.

Again, he preferred to stay in the championship with Blackpool who are far from nailed on for promotion rather than sign for Cardiff in the premier league who are a team on the up. It's got nothing to do with how much bigger than them we are, I just don't see Ince leaving Blackpool in a hurry to sign for a club such as ours which is renowned for instability and being in the headlines for the wrong reasons. We also have JFK as our director of Football!
LucaAltieri
Who's the last player to play for all three big North East clubs? Trick question. There aren't three big clubs in the north east.

KaKa
Downing really started going down the pan when they started playing him on the right so much. He's just not that kind of guy. If he's just a classic winger on the left side, with the purpose of whipping balls in, hes decent. Seems a bit forced though. The guy is 29 years old, and along with Darren Bent this just seems a little desperate. Older experienced Brits. Reeks of that template Pardew kept banging on about. Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world though (same as Bent really).

LucaAltieri
Downing showed some promise early in his career but has failed to kick on. Signing him now would be akin to going out and signing Shola now. The promise is gone. He's shown what he can do and it's not really good enough. ...and he can't stay fit. I'd rather take a chance on a classic winger from one of the lower leagues, if that's what we're in the market for.
Barnes23
Don't want an orthodox winger. Definitely don't want Stewart Downing.

quayside
Don't want an orthodox winger. Definitely don't want Stewart Downing. Without debating the merits of Downing the team that won the Premiership last season had players who could play effectively as wingers in their squad. They didn't use them that way every game but you have to have options.

He'll come here, have a few good games in the honeymooon period then get injured for 4 months and that will be that.
