Austin, Shelvey & Matip. You could get that lot for less than 25 million quid, what a difference they would make to us (imagining Matip is good?)

Austin will get goals for sure. Shelvey I rate, but Swansea fans have turned on him - I think he's better than what we have though. Matip can't be any worse than Colo.

It all makes sense to give it a go.

Dawson would be an okay signing, in the short term, to play / fill-in alongside Mbemba. Provided that it would leave more funds available to spend elsewhere, where our main defensive issues lie (central midfield and left back).

Those 3 alone would put us firmly in mid-table with no really worries of relegation, but still needing something else to push on.

Well I can't see him staying at QPR unless he's got absolutely no interest in playing in the Euro's.  What London team are going to come in for him?

West Ham.

West Ham aren't exactly short on strikers mind; Sakho, Valencia, Carroll, Zarate, Jelavic off the top of my head. Palace will be the one surely.

After Arsenal there are 9 points and a place in the fourth round of the FA Cup up for grabs in January.

Wonder how many we'll toss away before we make any meaningful changes to the squad.

From the BBC interview with McClaren:

Q. It is of course only the second of January, is there anything imminent that you need to tell us?

A. Absolutely not, no! It's only the first day in and there are a few weeks to go, we're doing our business nice and quietly behind the scenes. If anything happens I suppose you'll be the last to know.

Good to know these guys are working on it.

As if any of that means anything. Everyone knows what this club is like, they don't say anything until a few hours after we have signed someone.

I'm not saying that means we have someone in for medical now, just saying that what the club says regarding transfer to the media means fuck all, they will do what they want and when they want and won't tell them a fucking thing.

1. CF

2. CM

3. CB

4. LB

Fucking hell.

I agree.  But... we sign a CM and LB. Do you see McClaren dropping Colback and Dummett? They're both the worst players in our line up as of now, but I just can't see them being dropped   Especially Colback. Too much is made of us needing "english players".  The fact they're both geordies makes them even less droppable
