The Managerial Merry Go Round™ - Steve Cooper sacked by Leicester

Recommended Posts

They've not made a truly top signing since Aguero in 2011.

Since then, money has been spunked on Fernandinho, Fernando, Javi Garcia, Rodwell, Sinclair, Jovetic and Negredo. Nastasic looked good but he's already gone, Lampard has been a good sub, Navas is ok. That's it.

Wenger's in the top bracket IMO.

absolutely love wenger but he's just let his stubborness of not changing his approach to anything get in the way of winning things. he'd actually be a wet dream for Ashley

Come on! He transformed the club top to bottom and gave them their best teams ever. Ashley's wet dream FFS.

he did, but has completely stagnated the last few years as others have improved whilst he has stood still, he ewas revolutionary when he first arrived but he's not helped himself by bwing obsessed with passing it around and wanting to play complete football, they were at their very best when they had a bit of grit and steel to them, something of which he's not had for a very long time

Absolutely knee jerk. They've won the league twice.

Absolutely - not very good is an over statement but they aren't massively under-achieving. They consistently challenge for the league or win it and exit CL by R16. This is 5 years of the same stuff from the same core group of players.

If you had said this the first time, we'd have agreed. Dunno that anyone would disagree that City need upgrades in a few key areas (CB and CM most notably) or that they don't quite stack up to Chelsea.

City's team itself isn't very good.

 come on.

Hart isn't a top GK.

One of Mangala/Demichelis has to start, neither is a top quality CB.

Kompany is over-rated

Fernando/Fernandinho is uninspiring

I don't know for sure but can Aguero play up top by himself?

On paper are they much better than Arsenal?

They could improve the manager certainly. But the team needs a refresh imo. Down that spine. They need players at least on the level of their star men as partners. Nasri, Dzeko etc. are very good players but they need lads in that bracket above.

By the way - i'm just talking about being as good as the first Mourinho Chelsea team, the dominant Man Utd teams, Real, Bayern, Barca. that top level where you can sleep walk into a CL semi-final most years. Any team that wins the league 2 out of 3 years is a very good team but to get to the next level. They aren't good enough. Next level being back-to-back league titles, consistently running deep into the CL.

Lot of baggage like Nasri (a boring Hba who goes sideways till sideways becomes the new forward). Unless Yaya really tears up a game they struggle, them midfield is absolute poop for an elite side.

Navas puts in a good cross about once a game and Fernandinho and Fernando would be better suited to the Eurovision song contest.

They have 3, possibly 4 world class players. Chelsea have 5 or 6. They've bought exceedingly poorly too unlike Chelsea.

Roman knows the value of a top class manager, Citeh need the same.

With their worst manager in pedigree terms they won the CL & FA Cup. Won another European Cup with a deeply unpopular manager. They've always had a good side. Won both of their European cups without Terry.

Well against the marker they're being judged against (winning back to back league titles, running deep in the CL) - they just not that good. They've not massively under-performed. They aren't much better than Arsenal. Take away Aguero, Toure & Silva the team is nothing special. Take away the 3 best players at Chelsea and you're left with 5 or 6 players who won the CL.

I've had this thought before as well. Sounds stupid to say when they have the individual's they have, but I'm just not that convinced.

Saying that, they can just drop another £100m in the summer.

Doesn't matter when they'll probably spend it on shit again

Like one that loses to ten men in the last 16 of the champions league barely even trying to win the game?
