Absolutely no chance they should be anywhere near relegation with that squad, shame they’ve got Stevie G riding front and centre. He might just have the quality to take them down if he’s left in the job for too long

Villa won't get relegated, providing they sack Gerrard quick enough.

Rafa to Villa would make sense, he'd turn them into a unit.

Everton could go down but someone like Dyche would sort them out.

When Gerrard took over Villa, I wanted only wanted one of the two extremes to happen. Gerrard is a super coach who takes Villa to European glory. Leaves no doubt in anyone's mind that he is a top-level manager. Or Gerrard stumbles so bad that Villa sacks him within a year.

Even if he stumbles onto say 12th position with a squad like Villa, his mates in the media will paint it as the next great managerial achievement and start the PR campaign for him to take the LFC job post Klopp. Just like you all experienced with Bruce.

And there lies the difference- Bruce did a great job with us, with the tools he was given, according to his media mates….yet none thought highly enough of him that they put him forward for top 6 jobs, strangely enough.

yet, as you say, undoubtedly SG will always be mentioned for the Liverpool job unless he absolutely fucks Villa up….and that won’t happen because Villa would probably get rid before it gets to that stage.

Purslow loves SG. I think he will give him as much time as needed. Purslow is a good CEO, maybe even a great CEO, if he sticks to the financial and admin side of things. The problem is he loves the limelight and loves being associated with traditional British football royalty. He was one of the reasons for pushing Rafa out of LFC, replacing him with Hodgson, removing Rafa's scouts and players, and replacing them with his own style of signings - Konchesky, Joe Cole, a contract extension for Carra. So even if things get really bad for Villa, I am sure Purslow will give him time. Whether SG gets Villa out of the hole using that time is another question.

Rio for some reason know better than to venture down that avenue.

I think Rodgers should be getting more out of those players but if he does go, I don’t think they’ll get a top manager to replace him. Look at their business in this window, they’re clearly a club that’s plateaued and will be on their way into the bottom 10 of the league this season
