The Managerial Merry Go Round™ - Van Nistelrooy to Leicester | Lampard to Coventry

Recommended Posts

Spurs must surely be wondering if they can pry Bruce away from us, given his unparalleled experience and how he has bounced back to mastermind our recent string of brilliant results.  Did better than Rafa last season. Doing better than Potter this season. Proper English Football Manager.  Great bloke.  Genius man manager. Beloved by TV pundits. You know it makes sense.

Rafa's reputation is weirdly low, he just seems very unpopular outside of the clubs he has managed. When his name comes up in regard to the Spurs job he is dismissed with no discussion, when really they should be falling over themselves to hire him. Coming here and going to China probably didn't do wonders for his reputation as a top club manager (not that Spurs are a top club, they're certainly not).

Those teams think they are too good for "negative" managers, bar the cult of Mourinho obviously

Benitez would be stupid to go there. Things are not good off the pitch which ultimately means they won’t be good on the pitch either.

They are massively in debt. Huge constraints over improving the squad, can they even keep hold of their better players at this stage?

That negativity seeps into the dressing room. There’s fuck all a manager can do about it when that rot sets in which I believe has started.

Harry Kane wouldn’t want to waste much more time there.

As for Mourinho, he needs to take a proper break from the game, maybe a year or two. He seems to have lost his way a bit. His next move is critical, a bit like Benitez really.

Uh huh. Hard to imagine a universe where Rafa goes to a team where things are not good off the pitch and there’s not going to be loads of money available.

Genuinely an interesting move to be fair. About time he went to a club where he could be a bit of an underdog again. In the modern game that suits him far more. Should find it easier to get the buy in from players.

Not sure this is such a wise move for him, with Inter, Juventus and AC. If anyone can win a title in that league though with Roma, it’s him.

Again, if anyone can, he can. But it’s gonna be a tall order for him and I can see him being there two seasons and getting the chop eventually. He should have just taken a year out really.
