To think there were some that thought he wouldn't be an improvement. There are STILL some that think he wouldn't - unbelievable, but true...read the comments in the Pardew thread. Segun Oluwaniyi Posted October 1, 2013 Share Posted October 1, 2013 That rubbish from Krul when he threw the ball to Tiote, who was under pressure and promptly lost the ball, leading to another glorious chance for their forwards angered me as much as anything else that happened last night. It was the keeper's fault for the most part, but the highlight of Tiote's game is meant to be his strength on the ball, and he was shrugged off with ease. Pata Posted October 1, 2013 Share Posted October 1, 2013 It was a shocking decision from Krul who had a shocker. In my opinion Tiote played well and kept it very simple all game. Kept pressuring the ball and made some important tackles. Considering how most of our players played, Tiote was certainly a positive for me and I hope he can build on this and find some form. If we keep playing Anita and Tiote I would like Anita to be more active when the back line has the ball. Many times yesterday Tiote went to pick up the ball while Anita was standing still. Both of Anita and Tioté going deep to collect the ball leaving acres of space between our CM and attack. Can't have two players that deep leaving Sissoko as the only option most times. What a mess. Well, it's literally all you have to do against our whole team tbh. Press us and we can't deal with it. It's why Anita absolutely must be in the side - he's just about the only one that can remain composed. For all they were a far better team, Benfica beat us with that one tactic - pressing. alexf Posted October 1, 2013 Share Posted October 1, 2013 He didn't hide but I was watching him closely and he used to win tackle after tackle in his first season. Last night when someone was coming towards him he would get himself square on and they would knock it round him fairly easily on a lot of occasions. We went to Everton - a team that hasn't lost at home in this calendar year. Did anyone really expect us to win there? We didn't play well at all, yet managed to do something no one else had done in the previous 670 odd minutes (7 matches ?) - we scored a goal. Not once but TWICE. I hate the negativity Pardew brings to a game, hate the way he always tells everyone how tough a game is going to be in the run up and hate the way he seems incapable of getting a performance out of the team for a whole match. I would be as happy as anyone to see him replaced by a BETTER manager. Just have to face it, we're now in a situation where Pardew is open to absolute slaughtering every time something goes wrong. I don't necessarily go that far myself, but I see why people are annoyed. We didn't compete in one area of the pitch which takes some doing at any level. I would love anyone who watched that first half explain to me what the game plan was supposed to be. As much as Everton played well, we gifted them the three goals and never competed in any area of the pitch. The game was over at half time and Everton had mentally gone home. Granted we pressed a lot better in the second half but I can't really take any comfort in that, given how utterly outclassed we were in the first, and as I say, by virtue that all the Everton players where mentally at home banging the wife/girlfriend. Very very few had us down for anything from that game, but the level of cluelessness and capitulation was practically unbelievable. And that's no shit. You could have said the same thing about the rest of the team too, there just wasn't any cohesion between the defence, midfield and attack until later in the game. Everyone seemed to be content to do their own thing in their little part of the pitch. Cabaye coming on somehow glued the team back together, except Sissoko who just wasn't up for the game at all.
