They've backed themselves into a corner now though, haven't they? He's Fergie's choice, they'll want stability, etc etc. They would have to be very brave to sack him after one bad season. Fear they've signed themselves up to at leat another bad season. Which is sweet.

 Can't see them getting rid of him any time soon. He'll get a lot of money to spend in the summer to build his own team and if they are still out of the running come next May, they'll cut their losses then.

On the other hand, enough world class players can succeed no matter who the manager is. To a certain extent anyway.

depends on the players really, sure it can work if its a very strong dressing room like Chelsea's was after Mourinhio first left.

Can't think of many examples of that myself?

France under Domenech at World Cup 06 is one that springs to mind considering he really was a clown of a manager. Chelsea under Avram Grant to some extent too (one John Terry slip away from winning the CL after all)

Moyes' Everton teams were never as suspect defensively as Man U are now. They were also miles behind any of Ferguson's in the attacking department.

Man U won the league last year by outscoring the opposition, esp late in the game, not so much by dominating games from start to finish. They should either have appointed a more gung-ho manager, or will have to put up with all the disruption as they change to a Moyes team. The longer they spend transfer windows chasing after unobtainables like Fabregas, the longer such change will take.

Good players will win you games just through moments of individual brilliance, as we have seen with Remy and Cabaye, but the successful managers tend to have a very effective style and method, they don't change that depending on which player is available on a given day like we do. You would never get Ferguson saying "Cabaye has gone so we are going to change our style a little bit".

You possibly would if the remaining midfielders couldn't create fuck all between them.

Creative midfielders like Marveaux and Ben Arfa are a luxury when you need solid wingers like Gouffran and two defensive midfielders like Tiote and Anita, as I'm sure Pards would explain to you.

As 1 dimensional as they have looked this season... this is the by worst playing issue. Absolute shambles at the back and defensively in midfield.

But he did change styles when some of his best players left. Specifically Cronaldo out - Valencia in. That's going to change the style drastically.

I don't think Sir Alex did ''The future Man U'' any favours when splashing huge money on Phil Jones and Smalling. I'm not saying they're necessarily bad players, but for the price they paid for both they could've gotten one proven defensive class player. I mean both went for a combined £25m which could've gotten them a really good player. Also, big big mistake not going for Cabaye.

Ben Arfa's a winger.

Anita, Sissoko and Tiote can't come close to giving a team what Cabaye can.
