Despite being seen as "comedic", both clubs still won more than most other clubs will win in 100 years, and that's what the history books will remember.

Unfair resource allocation to a select few clubs bringing about the end of fair competition, surely cause for celebration.

Time was a manager would walk over hot coals to manage Man Utd.

They're all just waiting on Sir Alex's call back to tell them they can.

We're 1 point off the CL spots mate. Plenty to play for.

Agree, with other teams fighting on 3 or 4 fronts it'll be a disaster if Carrick isn't capable of grabbing European football with the squad he's inherited.

It's unbelievable that two such  success drenched clubs sack so many managers.

Some bloke who’s only managerial experience is being sacked by Middlesbrough in the Championship given the job because he’s free, cheap on wages and used to play for them

Fantastic how far they’ve fallen and keep striving to reach new lows.

My dinner ladies looked like Mama Fratelli. Still used to poke them after me mince and dumplings, like.

He's an interim mate. It's not that deep.

Since Ferguson left the interim/caretaker count is at:

Giggs

Carrick

Solskjaer

Rangnick

Van Nistelrooy

Fletcher

Carrick

It’s absolutely bizarre.

You forgot the bit about Fergie giving Carrick his blessing.

Some might say it was incestuous.

Not even 60 games between them though, and 48 of those were Rangnick and Ole (who ended up getting it permanently and performing well in the role). They're just caretakers/interims until a manager is brought in. I prefer that than panicking and rushing into an appointment.

With the exception of Fletcher they were all managers or ended up managers. Not like you're firing in Fred the Red, although he might have had more success than some of our managers lately.

It’s evidence, if evidence is needed, that there’s never a cohesive plan in place.

Sack the manager then figure something out later.

It’s clear as say they don’t have a clue about strategy. They have the chance to get a CL place this year but they’ve blown it with Carrick’s appointment. That has a knock on effect to the managers and players they can attract in the summer. It’s classic short-term scrimping that has long-term negative impact. I’d be gutted if I was a Man U fan that they don’t have a clue

Almost every team has a caretaker in place once a manager is sacked though. Even if only for a few games.

I reckon you might be surprised, although a CL place was always going to be difficult.

Maybe, it’s not a given that he fails. However, the intent behind it is the issue and we all know that the owners and decision makers at a club do more to shape the direction of a club than anyone else. The fact that they have gone down this route is the problem

He's from Wallsend anyway so I'm sure you all will get behind him and wish him every success.

I doubt he could even find Wallsend on a map at this point. He's spent most of his life living outside of the north east. Rob Lee and Bez are more Geordie than he is.

Would have preferred they gave it to Ole.

I think Carrick might have something about him, and it's a good opportunity for them to explore that.

Going to be interesting to see how he gets on. Think he may do surprisingly well with the calibre of players they have.
