Certainly, even going back to Miggy. I’m still narrowing my eyes at Targett, mind, but the rest of ‘em can stay.

Can see a scenario he stays as backup and Hall is moved into midfield on some occasions if we can't sort that area out. 02/03 vibes where Bernard, Hughes & Griffin were rotated heavily with Elliott as backup but never playing, but with Hall, Tino & Trippier and Targett & Krafth as the emergency backup.

Nee fucker will take that flaky scab like, not on his wages. Good chance he starts the season too with Hall getting back to fitness.

Hopefully. Also mate, can't believe you're rocking the proceding hairline fella as your profile pic. Feel like I'm being haunted whenever I see you in threads now. [emoji38]

It feels like Ramsdale, Thiaw, and Wissa raise the floor of the squad significantly, with Elanga going straight into the first team. We're desperate for a CM and we need an Isak alternative, but we're getting there. We've not moved the first team on in a big way, but being able to rest and rotate will improve it in it's own right.

If Isak does go this summer, I honestly think our style of play lends itself more to a target man with good feet (Woltemade immediately springs to mind).

Someone that's capable of holding it up would go a long way to helping us retain the ball a bit more.

Targetman is maybe the wrong term, but playing with a more physical, recognised striker has made a bit of a comeback as a means of beating the high press.

City beasted us with it at the Etihad.

Add BEK to the middle and Samu after Wissa

And that's actually a very strong squad

Top 4 challenging

Starting to feel confident about the season ahead now. Our squad is still thin for what we have ahead but just got to hope that some of the younger players can pitch in and Eddie trusts them. It all still hangs on the strikers though

Just caught that spurs 2023 6-1 clip on YouTube and it did make me think.

If Isak wasn't being a dick and Willock wasn't injured we could easily have fielded 10 of the first 11 from that game in our first game this season.

Even if you take those two players out we defo could be fielding 8 of that same 11 if we played a back 3/5.

How many other teams in the league would that be the same for?

I don't know if it's good that we retained all these players that set a high level in 22/23 or if it's bad that 3 years later in 25/26 we have struggled to refresh the squad and still rely on the majority of the same faces.

Eddie had it spot on, he’s wanted to refresh but very slowly and methodically. The forces outside our control have limited that but we should be so proud of what we have and what have built.

CL squad registration

GK:

Pope (HG)

Gillespie (HG)

Ramsdale (HG)

Ruddy (HG)

Thompson (Club HG)

DEF:

Trippier (HG)

Hall (HG)

Botman

Schar

Lascelles (HG)

Thiaw

Targett (HG)

Krafth

Livramento (HG)

Ashby (HG)

Burn (HG)

A. Murphy (Club HG - ? I think he must qualify this summer having been here 3 years now)

MID:

Joelinton

Tonali

Barnes (HG)

Willock (HG)

Guimaraes

Ramsey (HG)

FWD:

Gordon (HG)

Isak

Osula (HG)

Elanga  (HG)

J. Murphy (HG)

Players who can play without needing to be registered:

Miley

Nation home grown: 20/8 required

Club home grown: 2/4 required

Which means from the above squad of 28 players we need to cut 5 of them because we can only register 23 rather than 25 thanks to being short of the club home grown requirement by two. However, none of the 5 cut can be Max Thompson or Alex Murphy.

Gillespie, Ruddy, Ashby and two others? Targett and Krafth?

Of course if we add someone like Wissa/another striker and register them, we'd have to cut another as well.
