The Everton boss enters Saturday’s crucial derby showdown with the worst defensive record in the Premier League.

Yet the Spanish coach will not change his adventurous style and he warned his city rivals to brace themselves for a full on war.

“No, we’ll never change our focus, we always want to win. If you can’t win, draw. Fine. But we will never set out a team to try to draw a game or just hope for a win, we can’t accept that,” he explained with a smile.

“It doesn’t go with the way we want to be as a football club. I don’t think it goes with the way the club was in the 60s and the 80s and I don’t think that’s in my DNA. I’ll never compromise on that.”

Martinez knows his attacking philosophy piles pressure on the defensive side of the game, but he remains unrepentant, insisting it is the only way to beat the top four sides such as Liverpool.

“I’m not going to hide anything. Yes the way we set up the team makes defending more difficult – I don’t get any extra enjoyment if you keep a clean sheet if that’s not going to win you a game,” he added.

“I know there are managers who want to win through keeping a clean sheet and having a team that’s difficult to beat. But I’m from a philosophy of always wanting to win through scoring goals.

“If that’s going to leave you open, you need to score more goals than the opposition, that’s the top and bottom of it – the only way you can be good enough to win titles.”

Convenient this arrives after the anti pardew sentiment online like. This accident screams PR with this journo in on the act. To what end I don't know.

This. How people can't see it for what it is I'll never know. That Soho PR dickhead they've hired is playing a blinder.

Does this deserve a thread title change?  Alan Pardew -  “Dead. Finished. Over. One more game then that’s it."

Imagine the reactions of people logging in to see that come up

“He’s got one more game,” Ashley said. “If we lose against Stoke on Monday night then he’s gone. I have had enough.”

Making a throat-cutting gesture, Ashley added: “Dead. Finished. Over. One more game then that’s it. What would you do? I have spent a lot of money on that club, it’s cost me a lot. I won’t put up with it any more. Honestly, answer me, what would you do? One more loss and he’s gone, he’s over, finished.”

Context.  :yao:
