Rémi Garde and the case of the missing art galleries

Pretty ridiculous that it's taken this long already. Amateur.

Couldn't agree more.

It's so difficult to avoid being a cynic in this situation and think the delay is so they can say they tried but failed to get the right man and will wait until the summer.

Think of all the money we're saving in paying a manager, they'll have given Carver a little bit extra for "acting up" but it will still be nowhere near what a proper manager would cost. It's f***ing genius this, think of those balance sheets :p

i just genuinely think the hierachy think we are safe so the season is essentially over already so they are in no rush. It would surely be nice if they then refunded all the season ticket holders and made all games from now on be free to attend because they're basically friendlies.

Come to think of it why not abandon all fucking pretense, close the stadium to fans and replace all the seats with sports direct adverts and at least the club would be being fucking honest about what they think the only reason for Newcastle United to exist is.

ridiculous... Just make it compulsory for fans to wear sports direct paraphernalia. Can't risk losing revenue on sports direct ale, lager and pies with a giant SD made out of pastry.

I remember when I was a kid and we had seasons go south under the likes of Dalglish and Gullit and the phrase "the season's a write-off now" was widely uttered, even at a young age you knew what it meant and you felt it a shame.  You felt it a shame because we were Newcastle United and the world was our oyster so it was a waste.

You hear "the season's a write-off" now and it's almost a laughable comment, the season's a write off before a ball is kicked.  That's actually our aim as a football club these days, to make each season a non-event where we're not in much danger of relegation and in even less danger of a good cup run or qualifying for Europe.

Still, at least the matches are fun.  Ah shit, nar they're fucking beyond woeful.  We're all fucking mugs for following it in any capacity, other than hoping for better one day.

Do you really need a manager?

Instead you form a council amongst the players that decides who's playing each game.

Players with authority enough to control the others, you could call them "The Elders".

The council will be responsible for scouting upcoming oppositions and form tactics for each game, seeking advice amongst the players when needed.

For our most successful period as a football club (the edwardian era), we actually didn't have a manager, we had a selection committee. So perhaps you are onto something here :p

This would be an utterly absurd post at the best of times, let alone when it relates to players like Coloccini, Tiote and Williamson

In before: "We finally managed to get the manager we wanted on board. Unfortunately we couldn't get him over the line before the transfer window closed so we will have to wait until the summer to spend any m...eh, sign any players."

I actually bet Ashley and Charnley are gutted that the transfer deadline doesn't apply to managers so that they can't use that line when it get to the end of the month as an excuse.

What happened to Remi Garde?

The trail went very, very cold in the last seven days.

Before then, French sources were adamant that he had got the job.

He was talking freely – although off-the-record – back home and it appeared as if he was a shoo-in for a role he certainly wanted. He even commentated on the Manchester City-Arsenal game for French TV and dropped a huge hint that he was coming to Tyneside.

He went quiet a week ago and mystery surrounds just what happened.

There was talk of him wanting to bring his coaching staff over, but I understand he would have worked with Steve Stone, Carver and Andy Woodman. He wanted another coach but that could have waited until the end of the season.

He remains open to an approach, but it seems like his time has come and gone.
