Dave
England captain Wayne Rooney says he is in a "difficult period" after he was dropped for Tuesday's World Cup qualifier against Slovenia. Interim manager Gareth Southgate said the decision was tactical and not a reflection of the forward's form. Tottenham's Eric Dier will replace Rooney in midfield against Slovenia. Southgate added: "We have looked at the way Slovenia play and I knew in my mind the profile of the midfield I wanted to play in this game. In no way is it a reflection of Wayne's performance on Saturday. Isn't that worse?

joeyt
Why do international managers (might just be England) release their starting XI so early?

Dave
Why do international managers (might just be England) release their starting XI so early? Think it's just always leaked. Seems far more common these days, maybe I'm wrong though.

Segun Oluwaniyi
I wish this International week would just hurry up and finish. It's absolutely s****. It makes it even worse when the games we have stopped for is against Malta and Slovenia. Howwa man. To me, the European section of qualifying has just been objectively boring during this break. A multitude of pointless mismatches and dull sides. Even the few competitive matches feel fairly inconsequential because of the bloated nature of the format. HawK
Should just do away with qualifiers altogether tbh, places awarded based on previous tournament result, and separate tiers of tournaments for different tiers of nations.
themanupstairs
England Rooney What a sorry state of affairs it is. So full of empty platitudes and lauding of sub-standard performances. It's hilariously bad.
Wullie
Does the press in other countries go on like this about an aging player being on the bench?
joeyt
Paul Lambert said on SSN earlier that Rooney would be put on a pedestal in Germany if he was German because of what he's done for the national team. Wullie
Aye, the Germans would be well grateful for a player who's been absolutely shit in tournament football going back a decade.
Foluwashola
Rooney is not an efficient German. He's a disgusting, fat scouser.

AyeDubbleYoo
While it's completely the right decision to drop Rooney, I kind of hope England are shit tonight just to see the logical knots that the pundits would tie themselves in trying to argue he should have played.
