TRon
The comparison with Nolan is fair enough for me, one thing I've never liked is midfielders who can't boss the centre of the park, whether that's because of lack of mobility (Nolan) or lack of spine (Wijnaldum). Glorified forwards really, but Nolan was prepared to put his foot in, so he was ideal for a long ball side, which we were really during his time here. The College Dropout
The more I've watched Gini play, the more apt the Kevin Nolan comparison has become. It's a really odd comparison man, I dunno where you're coming from with it. Nolan might have been a non-entity midfielder who popped up with goals, but he did it regularly and had a spine, two things that you can't say about Wijnaldum. Nolan was the last good captain that this club had imo, even the idea of us ever having had Wijnaldum as our captain is laughable. "non-entity midfielder who popped up with goals" that is where it starts and ends. Can't think of anyone else that fits that bill besides Kevin. Think you'd need one in your team to notice that. Guest firetotheworks
It's a lazy comparison. Wijnaldum's goal return isn't high enough, nor his influence as a personality high enough to make it a comparison. Wijnaldum was a non-entity midfielder who scored the odd goal, it's not really the same. But then again, who really cares, it just makes no sense. DJ_NUFC
I think what KI is saying is that Kevin Nolan was way more Kevin Nolan than Wini ever has been. While they both are Nolanesque, only Kevin Nolan did Nolaning harder, and way more frequently.

I'm sure any woman would prefer Wini's physique over the original Nolan's.

And like Fellaini, he probably won't quite cut it at the top end of the Premiership, but would do well at the likes of Everton or Southampton. Possibly Liverpool, but his technique is only average and Klopp might well want more from him in that area. Having seen him play for Holland in the World Cup, I thought he was an excellent buy, and I saw him as filling Tiote's position as midfield anchorman. The player that I hoped he was going to be was Wanyama - a solid defensive unit down the centre who can still contribute to the attack, unlike Tiote. It didn't turn out that way. Some posters on here have talked about his technique, but that's his weaker area. He's a good athlete but lacks the more subtle skills. Perfect analysis. Paully
All of his goals have come at Anfield but three of them were against Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal. It follows on from last season when his 11 strikes for Newcastle were all at St James’ Park. The last time he hit the target away from home was for PSV Eindhoven at Den Haag in May 2015. Is he a player, then, who only performs well at home? ‘That is people's opinion,’ said Wijnaldum. ‘I think I also play good in away games, especially this season. It is funny because last season we didn't perform at a level as a whole team in away games for Newcastle but I was the only one who got the complaints. St1pe
I've watched a few Liverpool games lately and he's been absolute quality. It's annoying to be honest because he was obviously a top class player but it was just pure desire and a lack of care for our cause - even under Benitez - that was the problem with him. I don't have the same dislike for him as I do Sissoko which I guess is strange given it was the same problem with him.
Sho Time
We only put up with Gini for one season and he had plenty of positives for us, I don't think you can put him on the same level of Sissoko really. Yes, he didn't shine or graft much after a few months into the season, but he was playing for Newcastle under McClaren and the team as a whole was shocking. It was enough to demotivate anyone, let alone a player of his class.

Dr.Spaceman
We were fucking vile last season tbh. When you look at the team now it is evident that the players last year just didn't give a shit - a direct result of 4 years of Pardew. For that I think we need to take a step back and look at it from Wijnaldum's perspective. I mean I despise my boss at the moment. Am I giving 100% every day? Am I fuck. The College Dropout
Blaming Pardew for a player that signed 18 months later. Liverpool losing to crap teams regularly now. Don't think Gini playing well in those games.

Dr.Spaceman
Pardew set the tone, McClaren simply did little to nothing to eradicate it.

In terms of anonymity in midfield, he made Jack Colback look like Roy Keane.
