Ikon
One thing last year that p*ssed me off was his sloppy distribution. While he will misplace a pass now and again, he very rarely gives the ball away these days. Unbelievable improvement in every area of his game. Stifler
From an NUFC point of view I'd rather he didn't go and his performances are not really recognised, just so we can keep a hold of him. That is at least until we have been taken over with ambition who would want to build a team with him, rather than one who will be counting his worth going up and up. Hughesy
Looking more and more like the player that he was predicted to be in that Michael Calvin book - basically has all the raw attributes you could want in a centre half. And he couldn't have a better manager to develop under.

Based on absolutely nothing except the way his game has developed under Rafa's guidance I think he's seen as the cornerstone around which Rafa wants to build his team. If the fat one tries to profit from the sale of Lacelles I think that would push Rafa over the edge .
Raconteur
He's having the kind of season that you later look back and think "How good was he that year?" It's been a really long time since we could say that about a player. Any player.
STM
Quite simply, he's the second most important person at the club atm.

Guest firetotheworks
I think I could only be happier by a turnaround had it been Joselu tbh. Chuffed for Diame after all the over the top stick he's had.
Kanj
The form he's in, and the way he's outplayed others vying for their place for the Cup - he's got to be included in the squad and should be challenging for a playing role. He's simply outstanding.

Kanj
Don’t honestly think Keene, Smalling, Cahill, Jones, McGuire or stones could do what he did yesterday.
Magpie
Jones as in Phil Jones?? As Neville pointed out last night he was absolutely terrible against us yesterday. When he was last decent? I'd take Jamaal over Smalling and Jones any day. And Keane's been absolutely woeful for Everton all season. Stones Cahill Maguire Lascelles
Infinitely Content
Tarkowski shouldn't be overlooked either, he's been fucking excellent. If the likes of Jones & Keane are even in the discussion, Tarkowski simply has to be as well.
Tiresias
Smalling and Jones aren't good enough on the ball, as indeed Neville pointed out. One of them is ok but we lack for confident technical defenders. John Stones is the best with ball at his feet by a country mile but he is also a massive idiot. Infinitely Content
Maguire is also a really good ball player and perhaps less prone to a mistake than Stones; although I'm only saying that based off general consensus, I haven't seen enough of Stones lately to really know that to be true. Guest firetotheworks
I love the lad and love his outspoken attitude, but I do wish he'd keep it to solely about NUFC, there's no real need to talk about other teams like that in public.

Headline a little misleading I thought. It doesn't sound bad at all taking into context all of his quotes in that article. Certainly doesn't seem to me that he is purposely having a go at the opposition.
Bimpy474
Reading that he clearly didn't have a go at individuals, just that Man Utd didn't turn up because of how we played.

Guest firetotheworks
'You could see their centre-halves on the ball and they didn't really know what to do with it.' Not individuals, just two individuals. Again, love his approach, but he doesn't need to say stuff like that. Just my opinion on it.
Infinitely Content
Aye but he's making the point that the way we played didn't allow them to settle and led to errors. His comment is largely focused on us and not them, despite the headline of the article. "We were aggressive..." "We set up really well..." "The manager got it spot on..." "...but it was down to our pressing" Think you're misinterpreting the focus of his comments a bit by saying he's focusing too much on the opposition. Guest firetotheworks
I'm not, I've literally just quoted the thing I have an issue with. Like I said that's just how I see it.
