Soiled myself when he went down and Darlow chucked the ball out for him to get treatment. He's holding us together.

I was really confused about that. I had a great view and there didn’t seem to be any contact with his eye/face. Since seen highlights and similarly no contact. Wonder if an eyelash or bit of mud got stuck?

At the start of the season, I along with most of us I'm sure had him down as our 4th best CB. He is quite clearly our number 1 and vital for us, no coincidence at all that we've tightened up considerably since he returned.

Always thought he was our worst on the ball too - and seemingly has even improved that. Feel like Clark has actually turned out worst with the ball at his feet. Assumed our best pairing was Clark and Lejeune too and got that terribly wrong. It’s Lascelles and whoever next to him

Jamaal Lascelles

Newcastle’s record with their captain and central defender this season:

Played – 17

Won – 6

Drew – 3

Lost – 8

Goals conceded per game – 0.88

And without Lascelles:

Played – 6

Won – 0

Drew – 1

Lost – 5

Goals conceded per game – 3.00

That last statistic is the doozy. He may have just turned 24, but Lascelles is the leader of this Newcastle United team and Benitez’s most trusted player. Keep him fit, and they will stay up.

I don't want anybody else, when I think about you, Jamal lascelles

Another brick in Jamaal

 Good idea.

Edit:

We don't need no David Luiz

We don't need no Otamendi

No fancy dribbles near our box

Rafa leave Jamal at home

Hey! Rafa! Leave Jamal at home!

All in all he is the best in front of our goal.

(Although not entirely true as he is pretty decent in front of our opponents goal as well)
