AyeDubbleYoo
He's probably the best CB in the league, clearly a player who looks a cut above this level. He just made an error, chill.
Marmoset
It depends on the frequency of his errors though. It's not a one off. Hopefully he'll cut them down with more experience.
Dr.Spaceman
Mbemba is crap http://orig02.deviantart.net/6f60/f/2010/300/2/4/oh_you_by_doom1272-d31mb3c.jpg

The College Dropout
My opinion through observation. what about Mbemba's defensive contribution has impressed you so much? Genuine question. For me there's nothing to suggest he's better than Lascelles. Who imo is very obviously raw in some aspects of his game.
Figures 1-0 Football
I think they are probably about the same level at the moment (similar age too, aren't they?). In theory they could learn the game well with Rafa and become a solid CB pairing for us for some years. Mbemba was crap on Saturday, as was Lascelles and every other player on the pitch. Both are better than this level and probably the best two CB's in the division.
Ronaldo
I don't think he's the best CB in our squad, let alone the league. I think he's good, just nothing special.
Mole_Toonfan
Some on this forum are so unbelievably bipolar, since Mbemba and Lascelles have been put together we conceded 4 in 6 games in the PL and 6 in 8 games this season. ( not all have been Mbemba and Lascelles but you get the point) We lost one game for crying out loud, he's been great since Rafa came in and he scores an own goal which can happen to anyone and suddenly people are criticizing him and everyone else seemingly. Also Lascelles and Chancel are very young for centre backs. They have years to develop and get better as they gain experience. I hope anyway.

You make it sound like the own goal was the only mistake he made all game. He was absolutely terrible on Saturday all game and people are rightly criticising him for it. I don't think anyone wants him to be dropped or sold because they know we've got a good player on our hands if he continues to improve, but he was awful on Saturday and it's a football forum so people will criticise him for his performance

TRon
Whats the Chance Mbemba gets dropped? Every chance since Clark and Hanley haven't figured much this season, and Rafa's the type who likes to make a point. He's already said there'll be changes for tomorrow. Bimpy474
Whats the Chance Mbemba gets dropped? I reckon he wouldn't have played this Tuesday even if we had won and he played well against Wolves. I suppose if he doesn't start Saturday you might say he was dropped, but who really knows as it could be a Rafa rotation reason.
DJ_NUFC
Not too sure if changing your defensive line this often is a good thing. I thought a solid defensive unit was built on consistency and a familiarity of each other's roles?

The defence is the area where we've had the least changes to formation to this point.

I thought a solid defensive unit was built on consistency and a familiarity of each other's roles? Absolutely agree, although i think changes would have happened anyway for the cup game. I think you can rotate full backs ok-ish in the league, but the two CB's need to play together to get an understanding imo and you shouldn't change those positions if it's unnecessary, injuries and form permitting obviously. DJ_NUFC
I still maintain he's the best CB on our books the same way others maintain we're gonna be champions or that Mitrovic will come good.
Jesse Pinkman
Are people seriously suggesting Lascelles is better than Mbemba?
Ronaldo
I don't think there's much in it. Both have weaknesses and lots to learn. I have very little doubt Lascelles will go on to have a better career, mind.
The College Dropout
Lascelles had a bigger impact on the team. Aerial ability and leadership. I don't understand why people rate Chancel so highly. He didn't improve us.
Sho Time
What is it about you and men who have aerial ability ?
Marmoset
In fairness it's pretty important for a centre back
Sho Time
Aye it's a good asset to have, but not necessarily essential. Coloccini was never great in the air but (when he could be arsed) he was one of the best defenders kicking about. Not saying Mbemba has the intelligence or ability that Colo had (or ever will) but it just seems any mention of a CB and TCD is literally frothing at the gash or the mouth depending on whether they are decent in the air or not. Ronaldo
A CB needs to be good in the air in the PL, like. It was certainly a priority here under Bobby and KK.
