What a mess. Shame for IT but maybe he plays next tournament and becomes our Paolo Rossi ?

Joey47
Always wondered how footballers make these bets on football. They obviously can't put it in their name or even have the money linked in anyway to any of their accounts. My first guess would be that they tell their friends what to bet on? If so how do they get caught in the end? Or do I just have it all completely wrong?

gbandit
Toney aside, this could absolutely destroy Brentford if he gets a significant ban. I quite like them to be honest, more so than most clubs in the PL, shame it couldn’t have been Anthony Gordon

I was all ready to go in on Toney when I read that Trips got a 10 game ban for betting on that. I suppose they might be a bit more lenient on Toney having set a precedent. At least there won't be any calls for lifetime bans.
Yorkie
Brentford are well-run with a good manager and have January ahead of them to find a replacement; I don't think they're definitely going to sink off the back of this. Everything from 9th in the table downwards seems pretty changeable at the moment; it's difficult to tell which bunch are going to emerge as the relegation pack. Guest
Not even sure he told his mates to bet on it, just that he was moving there. Worst one was a bookies opening a market on that non-league keeper eating a pie or something on the bench and him doing it. Sure he got a ban but bet the bookies who ran the market got no punishment. (I voted against against the initiative myself. ) why if I may ask? It’s a legitimate leisure pursuit and as the US have proved in the past prohibiting stuff that has a public demand rarely minimises the societal harm. Far better to regulate imho. fwiw I’ll declare I have skin in the game as I work in the online gambling industry.

The lack of accountability for the firms themselves is astounding. Even one single brand can fulfil a self-perpetuating cycle of introducing a 'next manager of x club', market push rumours about that next manager on their own news channels before touting the betting prices they created and taking money based on their own unsubstantiated rumours. Totally above board. But God forbid a lad's mates make a bit of profit on his next place of work. It goes without saying that that rant is also totally separate to if someone is betting on things that can influence an actual match.
