Ten games if they are serious about putting a stop to it.

However if they are serious about it they also need to stop surrounding football and footballers with gambling advertising and endorsements.

In American baseball you'd get banned for life.

Not allowed to bet at all IIRC

they (FA rules) are not allowed to bet on football. I work within this industry and we’ve had some names who liked the horses snd casino who were key accounts / VIPs,

until recently you’d be breaking the law in most states for betting online as a fan tbf.

Sheldon Alderson is a 24 carat wanker. Thankfully the states free market principles are gradually extending to online gambling.

Nee wonder he didn’t make it into the England squad.

One good game from Toney and the knives were coming out over Southgate's selection. Had he picked him, the knives would have come out over this. No wonder they call it "the impossible job".

California just voted down an initiative that would allow online gambling.  Thankfully. (I voted against against the initiative myself. )

I'm not sure that he's international material. He's strong but not great technically IMO. The Man City game showed why he's gained a reputation but hasn't convinced Southgate or the big clubs, who don't seem that interested, judging from the lack of transfer links. Two decent but fairly basic finishes and then he fluffs an easy chance through a clumsy touch on the ball.

Boredom.  Too much time on their hands.

I won't dispute that, just mad how some, even if extremely wealthy, can't find a hobby outside of their profession to keep them amused that is actually allowed for their job.

Wonder how it’s come to light. Wouldn’t be surprised if someone competing for his spot got wind of it and had their agent let it slip.

Southgate clearly was unaware when he picked him for the two games prior to the tournament. Wonder if it was during that time it was leaked or just recently.

Is there any actual proof he has bet on matches involving himself (and on himself to get a red card) - other than coincidence of dates? I assumed he was casually punting on football, if a player really wanted to get into spot fixing for profit then it would not be too hard to cover your tracks with just minimal effort.

It seems to just be some creative play based on the known dates. I highly doubt he's been stupid enough to bet on anything involving Brentford. He'd be finished, Shirley?

He did start during Mike Ashley's Newcastle to be fair, probably needed the extra cash when he first started and got a buzz from it.

Given how many footballers gamble and how prominent football is as a betting product, should gambling firms restrict a customers access to football betting products if the customer is known to be a professional footballer? Obviously can still just bet via an intermediary but given the effort firms now put into monitoring and verifying customers identities it seems like would be fairly easy to do.
