KaKa
Still can't believe the shape he managed to get himself in. He is so lean now. Crazy. Â Probably has helped with how quickly he has bounced back from that injury now too it seems. Â Good news.
Ste
We’ve missed him. Quicker recovery than seems to have been expected, good stuff.

toontownman
Unsurprising yet still surprising how excited I am with the prospect of having him back after several years of hoping he was moved on and replaced in each upcoming window.  He hasn't done too much wrong under Howe and has been a great contributor. Still needs replacing but has a future here in the team in the short term and squad for the mid.
Nine
I expected Bruno to be starting in that position this season even if he was fit but I’m not so sure anymore, think he’d be pushed up alongside Joe with Shelvey sitting for more games than often when he’s back now Edited September 16, 2022 by Nine
STM
Amazed at how much we actually miss him. So much more quality with him rather than Willock or Longstaff, even if Shelvey is just an "option", he's a bloody good one.
Ronaldo
Definitely one of those players who contributes far more with good players around him. I don’t see him being here much longer, but he’s obviously a better option than Longstaff.

His movement off the ball is still rubbish, but yes, he will be upgraded in the next year or so I would imagine.
greydos
So glad he’s not Scott McTominay
Nolberto Disco
Rather McTominay than Shelvey. McTominay can actually run, track back, and pass a ball to someone in the same shirt.  Jonjo was at his best in the Championship. He was a Championship Zidane. He can't be relied on to provide any consistent level of performance. He can strike a ball, yes, ping a pass yes - play CM in the Premier League, I'd say no.

We were after a midfielder in summer but didn't get one, I imagine we will be back in January for one so unfortunately for him he does have shelf life but if he comes back he is certainly an upgrade on Longstaff or Willock and i say this as someone who has been advocating for Shelvey to be phased out for some time. It's just if he can be consistent     Considering the position we are in now, Jonjo Shelvey should be nothing more than a mascot.  Rafa brought Shelvey in, Eddie brought Bruno in.  He was given an extended contract under Ashley.  Not one Premier League club would take Shelvey right now.   I've never liked him, and never will.

bowlingcrofty
Yeah it was Schteve, same window we brought Townsend in.  For what its worth, Shelvey has been in his best form with us since Howe came in. I expect he’ll play his 3 games and it’ll trigger a 1 or 2 year extension, over which he’ll gradually be phased out of the team as we bring in another CM or two.

He'd walk straight back into our first 11 right now if he was fit.  The Shelvey anchor role with Bruno and Joe either side is the best balanced our midfield has looked in this system.  Long-term Bruno might take over that role but until we have someone who can play as an 8 who can assist and score like he does he's wasted there.

We've missed the ability to drop Willock. Somebody somewhere asked how the hell Willocj ever managed to be a scorer and I just remembered it came not long after Willock had a little whinge about not starting. Think he needs a little encouragement again.
cubaricho
Ironically could’ve used someone like Shelvey today.
Kid Icarus
Willock's obviously the whipping boy on here like. I said it before but you're mad if you came out of that match singling out Willock as the problem, he was probably our best midfielder today. Bruno was off it and Joelinton put in the worst performance I've ever seen from him. Â Saying all that, I do think Willock needs a rest considering how much he's played and Shelvey coming in also means pushing Bruno forward where he's more effective.
