nufc4eva
Milner I kind of understand, but Barkley offers nothing, Sturridge likely to break down. There are no genuine wide players and Townsend would be ideal as sub. Fuck them all.
AyeDubbleYoo
I wouldn't take Barkley or Sturridge, probably not Wilshere, Henderson or Sterling either. I'm aware that leaves a lot of gaps! I would pick international teams almost completely based on form.
Deuce
Townsend's form probably came too late. Drinkwater not going is an absolute disgrace tbf. Leaves them with only one defensive midfielder as well. Who sits deep if Dier goes down, Henderson? I don't really see the point in taking five out-and-out strikers. Sturridge should be probably be left home on form, Townsend would've made sense as a true wide fret. Don't have the wingers to play a standard 4-4-2. Options are limited in the 4-3-3, with really only Sterling and Lallana as the wide forwards. 4-4-2 diamond probably makes the most sense.

Hanshithispantz
Teams who actually win the tournaments don't pick their players on form either like. There has to be a ballance, but I think Wilshere's inclusion is mental given he's been injured for as long as I can remember.
The College Dropout
Think Milner had 11 assists in the PL alone.
Ronaldo
Imagine some of the stupid exclusions/inclusions over the years if you picked based on form alone. Has to be a balance, as Hans says.

Always good for Germany but club form would drastically fluctuate.

Obviously, but the balance on this occasion is between a key player in a championship winning side and someone who doesn't actually play football. Edit: Actually, that's what hans said. Aye. Tsunami
That squad offers very little variety, at some point you'd expect that we'll need something from the bench with 20 minutes or so left and what we'll have is a variant of who has been substituted. I'd have taken Townsend and I'd gave also taken Carroll. Assuming everyone stays fit Rashford will not get a game and Sturridge being the lazy selfish git that he is would operate best up top by himself with Rooney having to do his donkey work behind him. I can see Vardy being used as the something different from the bench being asked to play wider to a more central Kane or Sturridge. Hodgson is lining himself up for a shit load of criticism if we go out due an inability to change games.

The College Dropout
Wilshere, Henderson and Sturridge - all 3 is a bad move imo. 1 okay, maybe 2 but not all 3.
The College Dropout
Do think there's more justification for bringing lads that have helped you win international tournaments, 100+ caps I'm guessing. Then there's forcing Henderson into your selection. It ain't the same.
samptime29
I'm not saying he should be starting but Townsend would be very useful as an impact sub. Gives the team something different.

rgk_lfc
Based on form Henderson and Wilshere shouldnt be in the final list. Given the fact that there is only one defensive midfielder, Dier, who could be used as a central defender also, Drinkwater should have been on the list. Townsend should have gone. Especially since when England are chasing the game against good opposition, their best strategy has been taking long distance shots. He also is a great weapon against tired legs. I saw some reservations against Milner but he is a great asset to have in the squad. Easily one of our best players in the second half of the season especially in the Europa cup run. Doesnt do anything flashy but provides assists when played wide. Also a great utility player - can play both full backs, wide attacking midfielder, and a central midfield player to a reasonable level.

Despite his rather poor season by his standards, I assume Fabregas will start (as well he should based on his talent). Dunno where Schweinsteiger stands in terms of Germany's starting XI but I think he's an important veteran presence for them, especially with the likes of Lahm and Mertesacker retired. AyeDubbleYoo
OK, well we picked Rooney. We didn't need to pick another 4 or 5 unfit/out of form players as well.
Ronaldo
Rooney's in form for England and has been for 2 years. I couldn't care less what he does in a Man U shirt playing for a manager who had him on a metal leash.

Scotty66
Can't believe Townsend has been dropped from the national squad. Perfect player to bring on at 75 mins against tired legs at least. Has proved he can create goals, score goals,(including free-kicks) and beat a man with pace on the inside and out. Bringing him and Rashford on late on in a tight game would cause major headaches for the opposition.

I couldn't care less what he does in a Man U shirt playing for a manager who had him on a metal leash. So if he's in the squad as a midfielder/forward then you should probably think again whether you really need Wilshere, Barkley, Milner, Sterling and Henderson. Maybe Roy is going to give us a reincarnation of total football where every single forward can do a job as a wide man, midfielder and a striker and they'll all play a vital part. I just can't get over the memory of Pardew leading a Hughton built side winning 3-1 against him in the premier when he was Liverpool boss.
