Jayson
He's just not that good a player, he's an alright player that had a short purple patch with us. He would have torn the championship up, but as a long term option in the premier league he doesn't really cut it. He is a good player, but he needs a good manager. Benitez got him playing well, after McClaren struggled. Now Pardew is struggling to get the best out of him. It's no shock. s**** manager, s**** results. I don't think he's great by any stretch but he has decent end product and pace to burn. He's yet to even hold down a regular starting over the course of a season, and as for end product, during his time with us he almost doubled his career total of premier league goals, that tells you how unproductive he was before he came to us. Whilst being managed by Pardew? Bit bizarre to write someone off having seen them play well for your own side.

Kimbo
He had good managers at Spurs and scored 3 goals in 50 games for them, I just think that if you look at what he's produced over his entire career that very short run of form here was an exception. Winn
What a stupid decision he made and I am enjoying watching everything going against him at the moment. Idiot
mrmojorisin75
I'd take him back in Jan for £6 mill We should absolutely make that offer and also make sure it's leaked to the press, more than once.
Figures 1-0 Football
Anyone who wouldn't take him back is just holding a grudge, he'd definitely improve our team and competition for places on the wing. It wont happen though.
YNGLEGIONNAIRE
Rafa got this guy really performing and giving his all in a side that was floundering . He's got to be a good shout for a cracking squad member if the price was right
Conjo
Ritchie is barely holding down a fairly regular place on the wing in the championship, competing against Gouffran and Atsu... Townsend would be a massive improvement on what we have, and would be ready made for next season back in the top division.
Magpie
Own stupid fault. The fact Benitez wanted to keep him should have rang a thousand alarm bells with him. Yet he still decided to go and play for that plum. Beautiful. Tit.
Ste
Wouldn't take him back for even half the price. Fuck him, we'll get better and he'll end up jumping from club to club for the rest of his career now.

No grudge here, He made his decision to leave, he hasn't held down a 1st team spot, he has been coached for a year by Pardew and we know the effect that has on a player. Look for other options. Guest Howaythetoon
He can f*** off like, but he is a good player and was vital for us and how Rafa likes to play.
STM
His failure at Palace should be all the proof people need to confirm he is indeed a decent player.

Shak
He'd improve our current team for sure but to be quite honest when we do go back up I'd like to see us aim a bit higher than bringing Townsend back. Decent player but nothing special IMO. I don't really hold any ill will towards him but honestly a part of me finds it funny that his time at Palace has been a disaster. Given how his career had gone up until he came to Newcastle it was a monumentally thick decision by him to leave. A proven top class manager clearly rated him, knew how to best use his talents and envisaged him as a first team regular going forward. After a career of bouncing around on loan to a million clubs and failing to really get a proper run at Spurs you'd think he'd have been delighted to have finally found a club where things were going well and he looked set for the future, even if it meant a year in the Championship. Instead he gets all excited about going to play for Alan fucking Pardew. Moron.

Tiresias
Possible bad agent advise but the responsibility falls on him. Said at time, if a player would prefer to play for pardew than benitez then glad to get rid. He clearly has no desire to settle down anywhere btu keep chasing imaginary greener grass elsewhere. I could maybe understand it in a year with euros or world cup at end in the hope he could get an (probably undiserved all in all) england place. I'd probably have him back, seems foolish rather than greedy or anything.

Probably, I suppose.
