Swiss league is s**** mind

So is the championship

We weren't in the Championship when he was with us

Werent we?

I don't get your point, the Championship is shit so we should have given him a chance in it even though he wasn't with us in the Championship?

Or that we should have re-signed him for the Championship season despite him doing nowt for us and Rafa didn't even pick him in any matchday squad after his first game?

Do you rate Gayle?

Oh man, forgot about him.

9 in 12 this season. Goal every 80 mins average.

Will never understand how he looked so shit for us and/or never got any sort of chance. Always seemed a very solid player throughout his career from what I saw

He looks about 50 years old, that probably counted against him. I still reckon he might have scored more than Mitro and Perez if he had been given a chance though.

Of course. Got no idea where this is going

Wey you seemed to dismiss Doumbia's stats from this season (and all others?) because he is/was in a "shit" league. Gayle is currently banging them in in a shit league himself. What's the difference? Sure Gayle has scored a few in the Prem, but he's played in like what? 70 odd Prem games? Doumbia got 30 mins over 3 games and written off

He played 29 minutes for us, it's almost impossible to judge him based on that.

Still, Rafa/McClaren were unable to play him as it was a "favour" signing and one that the club didn't want to trigger a permanent deal from.

fair point, I had actually completely forgot about that. what a load of shit man

Well the reason that you said, Gayle has shown potential in Premier League by having something like a 1 in 3 record in the Premier League, whereas Doumbia hasn't done anything in a top league.

Rafa was manager of our club for about 2 months at the end of the season and didn't even include him in a squad after his first game. He had Obertan on the bench before him.

There was never much doubt Gayle was a good forward when we signed him though. You cannot really say that for Doumbia.

Gayle wasn't available back when we signed Doumbia. We went with Mitro and Perez to provide the goals ahead of Doumbia probably because they were considered  our assets over the longer term. Didn't work out so well in hindsight.

Aye and what I don't get is where the doubt comes from.  He had like 120+ career goals and 16 in the champions league (in a team from a "shit" league, no less).

The whole "hasnt done anything in a top league" stuff is BS for me, that's probably why. Not like the Russian premier league is the level of the conference.

Like has just been pointed out though it's all irrelevant in the end cause of the ridiculous "deal" that was made anyway

What about Rafa working with him for 2 months and not involving him in squads?

Old and unfit probably. Rafa didn't have a lot of time to assess the squad with only 10 games to go. He went with the acclimatised young guns in Mitro and Perez instead.

What the fuck are you going on about, man? He's scored goals in poor leagues and completely failed to make an impression at a higher level. That tends to suggest what his level is.

I'm sure even if it meant the possibility of activating a clause then Rafa would have used him if he thought he was good enough to keep us up.
