The only half decent players who go to Sunderland are on loan. I use Stoke as the benchmark because they've been in the league a similar amount of time, and now look a club who wouldn't look out of place in the top 8 (Butland, Shawcross, Imbula, Allen, Shaqiri, Arnautovic, etc), yet Sunderland with a bigger fanbase, probably in a better position financially around 2007ish, have been left for dead by them. They have been badly mis-managed from the top almost as bad as us.
