agree with a lot of what joeyt has said there about this thread, what i would say though is that this last year has really become an eye opener in some respects - their utter obsession with staying in the PL by the skin of their teeth enduring year upon year of misery and defeat just to to be able to say they're in the PL and/or above us

through the dark pardew times i always said i'd probably take relegation if it led to a clean sweep and rebuild, and that's where we are under a world class manager while the mackems continue to look no futher than securing 17th place so they can repeat it all again

not really sure what point i'm making here but it's the difference between the clubs/fans in many ways, i just can't imagine a situation where that would be the declared aim for so many of us albeit during the pardew/carver years we were arguably headed that way

He's got a canny little number at Burnley mind. The mackems were confronting and abusing Moyes in the dugout in his very first home game in charge. Not sure how appealing that would be when he's currently in one of the most secure jobs in the country.

Also think Burnley will have more spending power than Sunderland which I'd imagine would be quite important as a manager.

Really? I would have thought they'd be over the moon to get a manager of Moyes' calibre once Allardyce had grabbed his cardboard boxes and bolted south for the England job. I know Sunderland is a pretty dismal place but even I wouldn't have thought their fans are that thick.

Aye there was a few photos doing the rounds on twitter of fans (3 of them I think) confronting him in the dugout when Boro went 2-0 up.

Right. Well I was talking about the Sunderland fan base in general, not sure Dyche would take 3 wankers out of a crowd as representative enough to put him off. Sunderland is probably as near to a big club as he's likely to get IMO. Not that it's saying much, it's still not much of a step up from Burnley.

The attendance craic that has really took off over the last few months is awful

Last few months?

Have you been Elisabeth Fritzl'd? The attendance debate has been going for at least 10 years. At a guess I'd say it began when they moved grounds and we developed SJP.

Its been going on since 1992 when the Newcastle crowds swelled with KK taking over as manager, the whole 1992'ers business.

it was going on in the early 80s when Cowie?  thier chairman at the time concluded newcastle were better supporters due to attendances.

edit

I know, there was hell on over it at the time, they had a few seasons hanging onto top flight football by the skin of their teeth, and scouse teams throwing last games, half empty Roker Park.

us a division below with 10-15k higher crowds and some cracking football.

I think their stupidity level just got higher, that's why they're getting more posts about them in here. It finally feels like their year and they're out swinging about our squad and "Prem" football like it's the be all and end all, we're in a tin pot league (that ironically they'll be stinking up next year and the foreseeable). For once they're the media circus and we're not and for all the mickey taking we've endured they deserve some back.

But aye attendance patter is a bit yawn, pink seat jibes accepted.

I think there may be some misunderstanding regarding the "attendance patter". Who really cares ? Most realise that the 2,000 or so who watch Crawley Town, for example, are as good and arguably more committed than the 50,000 who watch us.

What makes it different with the mackems is that they obsess about attendances, particularly ours. They have threads about attendances, they constantly define and redefine imaginary geographic borders to show they are bigger than us and then in almost the same breath use those same "boundaries" as an excuse for their inferior crowds. They make ridiculous claims that all the red and whites they know go to games but the "mags" they know dont. Figure that out ? They constantly pat themselves on the back about having such great support when gate receipts  prove that many are using free tickets.

The holy grail of having a higher average than Newcastle never happens, even when we're a division below, and it drives many of them insane.

Nah, I don't think anyone is really that bothered, but their sensitivity just makes it easy for us to turn it round and use it as another thing to rip the piss out of them about.

Can't wait to see these f*** wits come to my work tomorrow. Can't work out if I'll be giving them a round of applause and a thumbs up or heckling the f***ers and laughing my tits off.

Just burst out laughing.
